Our colleagues Michael Davis and Debbie Collins from NatCen and Sherine El Taraboulsi-McCarthy, PhD from NatCen International have been in Riyadh this month, delivering training courses and building upon our partnership with the Princess Alanoud Foundation, a Saudi based organisation dedicated to supporting #SocialDevelopment. We are pleased to announce that we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the foundation, with the aim of strengthening opportunities for collaboration across #Research, #Training and #Events, and develop a robust infrastructure for #SocialResearch in Saudia Arabia and the region.

Our latest British Social Attitudes report found people are at least as distrustful of government and politicians as they have ever been. People are inclined to think that democracy works less well in Britain now than it did in the past. A record high of 45% now say they 'almost never' trust governments of any party to place the needs of the nation above the interests of their own political party. #NatCenDataBites

This year marks 25 years since the opening of The Scottish Parliament. It's also 25 years since the National Centre for Social Research opened it's Edinburgh office - ScotCen Social Research - and launched the first Scottish Social Attitudes survey (SSA). SSA provides a unique, robust and longstanding time series on the social and political attitudes of people living in Scotland. We, together with partners National Centre for Social Research, recently held Session Two of our series on The Sudan Crisis and Implications for Neighbouring Countries. The event was chaired by Sherine El Taraboulsi-McCarthy, PhD, Director of NatCen International, Elvina Quaison, Interim CEO of Shabaka, and Ashley Jackson, Co-Executive Director of the Centre on Armed Groups. Expert speakers included Ibrahim Jalal إبراهيم جلال, non-resident scholar at the Malcolm H. Kerr Carnegie Middle East Center; Kholood Khair, founding director of Confluence Advisory; Dr Hazem Rihawi, Senior Advocacy Officer at The White Helmets; and Aung Zaw Win, Operations Manager for Green Life Alliance for Development (GLAD). This online closed roundtable, held under Chatham House rules, explored the role of humanitarian diplomacy in the Sudan crisis, with a focus on bringing insights from outside the humanitarian system in Sudan, as well as other crises such as Myanmar, Syria, and Yemen.
