NICE - National Institute for Health and Care Excellence reposted this
The first ever NICE guidance for diabetic retinopathy has been published. Christiana Dinah, an Ophthalmologist at Central Middlesex Hospital and Director of Research and Innovation, is one of three diabetic retinopathy experts involved in developing the guidance for the sight loss causing conditions. The ophthalmologist says the guidance can help standardise treatment across the country and help address inequalities in the care for people with diabetic retinopathy, with reports of people from minoritised backgrounds often waiting longer for treatment. Congratulations to Christiana and her ophthalmology colleagues for all their amazing work.

"It feels like you've given me a new pancreas. It is my lifeline." - Ammaarah Ahmed Diagnosed with #Type1diabetes at 22, Ammaarah faced constant migraines and disrupted sleep. Life changed dramatically this year when she received a hybrid closed loop system, often called an 'artificial pancreas', recommended for use on the NHS by NICE. “The first night of having the new system was the first time in almost 12 years where I slept all the way through,” she says. “I’m waking up happy and in a good mood. It has completely improved my quality of life. I’m no longer scared to be alone in case something happens, and I’m back to being me.” 🔗https://lnkd.in/eT8MxzcV #T1D #Diabetes
