#Shipbuildingshoutout ℹ Penzance Dry Dock is a traditional yard that has been operating for almost 200 years, with generations of knowledge passed down. 🚢 The company has six operational sites to build, repair, refit, and convert everything from fishing boats to passenger ferries to superyachts up to 75 meters in length in the Dry Dock or vessels up to 106m wet dock. The National Shipbuilding Office (NSO) was very pleased to see Penzance Dry Dock (PDD) be officially awarded over £2m from the shared prosperity fund as part of an estimated £4m yard refit project. The NSO are actively engaged in increasing the capacity and capability of UK shipyards, and this grant will allow PDD to invest in new equipment and bring the facility up to industry standards allowing the yard to, build as well as repair vessels. 🛠 Investment in shipyards increases the prosperity and economic growth of local regions, and the NSO are pleased to see that this funding will create many new highly skilled roles and support the creation of the Penzance Dry Dock Skills Academy, focussed on enhancing specialised #skills.

👩🔧Fantastic to see the important role women play in shipbuilding recognised in the naming of BAE Systems Maritime new shipbuilding hall that will be a game changer for the company.
Our new ship build hall that will transform shipbuilding in Glasgow has officially been named the Janet Harvey Hall. Janet was one of the many women who took on industrial jobs when the country needed them most during the Second World War. Once complete, the Janet Harvey Hall at our Govan Shipyard will be large enough for two Type 26 frigates to be constructed side-by-side. 🚢 Find our more by clicking the arrows below 👇 🔗 http://baes.co/o7t050STF4N

Great to see the energy this group has to tackle the skills issues facing our sector. 👨🎓
The Shipbuilding Skills Delivery Group (SSDG) launched earlier this year by the National Shipbuilding Office (NSO) held its second meeting this week at Babcock - Marine sector's Rosyth site with an opportunity to tour the ever impressive Type 31 Frigate manufacturing operation. Sincere thanks to the Babcock Marine team for hosting us, arranging our tour of their facility, and even laying on sunshine in #Fife in July..... The takeaway I took from the day was how clearly a pipeline of demand enables the kind of investment in #skills, technology and automation that is game-changing to boost the capability our #shipbuilding industry needs to compete with the very best. Once again my thanks to the SSDG team for their support and joining the meeting (despite being held in peak holiday season!) - Scarlett Black, Andy Bullock, Clare Caulfield, Robyn Dewar, Mark Harvey, David Honeyman, Elizabeth O'Connor, Richard Purdy, Matthew Roberts, Paul Singer, CMgr MCMI, David Tydeman and David Wilson - plus the excellent support once again from colleagues from the National Shipbuilding office and UK and devolved governments and agencies.
