The NFCC Chair is supported by two vice chairs who provide support and advice. The aims of NFCC are to: Strengthen the professional / operational leadership of the Fire and Rescue Service Improve national coordination Reduce duplication; increase efficiency Support local service delivery Provide increased influence for Fire and Rescue Authorities and their Services.

With the Met Office issuing multiple flood warnings this week, and one year on from Storm Babet, NFCC is renewing our calls for the Government to consult on introducing a statutory duty for fire and rescue services in England to respond to flooding incidents. Fire and Rescue services across the UK already undertake activities in response to extreme weather events, but there is no statutory duty in place in England to respond to flooding. This leads to inconsistencies in equipment, training, and standards. NFCC believes the Government should investigate introducing this duty, and that it should be supported by initial financial investment and sustained funding to ensure our communities are well-prepared. NFCC Chair Mark Hardingham has highlighted the importance of coordinated and well-resourced flooding response efforts, especially after the devastating impact of Storm Babet last year, which caused widespread damage and tragically claimed lives in the UK. He has also welcomed confirmation from the Fire Minister that Home Office officials would undertake work with Defra, NFCC and other partners to understand where there are gaps in flooding response and resilience. National Burn Awareness Day Today is National Burn Awareness Day which aims to raise awareness of the shocking number of people burned every day – the vast majority of which are preventable. Check out our range of resources linked to this campaign which can assist you with your Prevention Education today. https://lnkd.in/eZejfzJA During National Burn Awareness Day, a key message is how to use Hot Water Bottles safely. When it’s chilly, having a nice hot water bottle is a great way to warm up and feel cosy. But hot water bottles can be dangerous and cause serious burns if they are not used properly. Hector the Hot Water Bottle has some handy tips for younger children on how to use them safely. https://lnkd.in/ey_5kT62 Thank you to the Bristol & Weston Hospitals Charity for supporting this film and to the @UHBW Medical Illustration team for creating it.

As the National Fire Chiefs Council, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the Core Code of Ethics and in supporting fire and rescue services to be safe, open and inclusive workplaces that are free from bullying, harassment and discrimination, abuse and harm. We want to acknowledge all those colleagues who continue to speak out courageously in relation to their own experiences. It is important that we continue to listen to their voices and learn from their experiences. All UK fire and rescue services now have independent reporting lines in place to support confidential reporting to help ensure that we have positive and professional places to work, providing the best possible service to the public that inspires confidence and trust. Culture and inclusion remains a critical priority for NFCC and we will continue to build on the work of the NFCC Culture Action Plan. This includes establishing a new lived experience forum that will meet to help shape and inform NFCC’s work moving forward and, most importantly, to ensure that the voices of those who have spoken about their experiences remain paramount and foremost in our thinking to drive improvement in the sector.
