📢 **Important Message to All NPA Members ** 📢 Hi, I’m your NPA - National Pharmacy Association Vice Chair, and I want to address a critical decision we have to make together. All NPA members should have received a ballot paper asking if they would consider withdrawing some services to respond to the ongoing underfunding in our sector. 🔹 Why Your Vote Matters 🔹 Here are six key reasons why a “yes” vote in this advisory ballot can make a difference: 1. A strong “yes” sends a clear message to the government: community pharmacy needs change. 2. This vote is advisory – a “yes” doesn’t commit you to any specific action. 3. If service withdrawal is supported, each pharmacy retains full control over whether to participate, and for how long. 4. The actions proposed aim to reduce costs and protect the sustainability of your pharmacy. 5. Legal advice confirms these actions won’t put your contract or regulatory standing at risk. 6. Many large multiples have already put similar measures in place. Whatever the outcome, this vote is about strengthening our voice and reinforcing our commitment to patients, our teams, and our communities. Give me a thumbs up 👍 if you have voted Watch the video to learn more, and let’s stand together to create the change our community pharmacy sector needs. #CommunityPharmacy #PharmacyLeadership

Multi-award winning CEO of the National Pharmacy Association. Ex CEO of RCPsych and director of comms of RCGP. Values-based leader. Views my own.
It was great to see community pharmacy united at Wes Streeting's ministerial reception on Tuesday night. At the event, held at the Science Museum, on Monday, a whole host of community pharmacy body representatives talked together about the key issues facing the sector - and worked the room to engage with key politicians and civil servants, to explain the central role community pharmacy can play in meeting the government's priorities to shift care into the community from hospitals, and to move from cure to prevention. On the night, it was great to see Community Pharmacy England CEO Janet Morrison OBE, Company Chemists' Association CEO Malcolm Harrison, Royal Pharmaceutical Society England board chair Tase Oputu, Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK (APTUK) president Nicola Stockmann and General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) CEO and Registrar Duncan Rudkin - alongside myself, there for the NPA - National Pharmacy Association - working hard to influence decision makers and opinion formers, to make the case for pharmacy. During the evening - which was held to mark the launch of the consultation for the NHS 10-year plan - alongside Tase, I had an excellent conversation with Department of Health and Social Care Director General Matthew Style about how the community pharmacy network needs to be supported in order to help deliver Wes Streeting's ambitions. I also had a great conversation with an old friend of mine, who works for the DHSC communications department. He told me that the new ministerial team talk about pharmacy far more than any previous DHSC ministerial team he has worked with. He said: "This team are all about pharmacy." Wes Streeting's speech, in which he urged people to get involved in the NHS 10-year plan consultation, was witty, lively and compelling. Later on in the evening, I also bumped into a whole host of great colleagues I have worked with in previous roles, including RCPsych President Dr Lade Smith and RCGP Chair Professor Kamilla Hawthorne. nick kaye Olivier Picard Sukhi Basra Sanjay Ganvir Sanjeev Panesar Salim Jetha Baldev Bange Aisling O'Brien Ashley Cohen Harpreet Chana MRPharmS, CPC, ELI-MP Shilpa Shah Andrew Lane Graham Phillips Mike Hewitson Thorrun Govind (Pharmacist/Healthcare Lawyer) -TV Health expert Sehar Shahid Reena Barai

We were featured across various media outlets, discussing a number of critical issues affecting pharmacies. Firstly, we responded to the government’s 10-year plan. Our CEO, Paul Rees MBE Rees, highlighted the need to tackle the urgent crisis facing pharmacies, warning that “pharmacies could be forced to close before the plan is even published in 2025.” Our Vice Chair, Olivier Picard, also appeared on BBC Radio Live, sharing our hopes that “community pharmacy funding will be placed at the heart of the new 10 year plan.” Secondly, we addressed the rising use of the drug Ozempic, urging patients to consult with their pharmacist or GP instead of purchasing medicines from unregulated online sources. We’re calling for stronger measures to ensure medications are bought safely through registered, regulated providers. Thirdly, we provided a statement in support of colleagues at Community Pharmacy England, who produced an important report raising awareness of the significant workload and staffing challenges facing pharmacies.
