We're investing more in the UK. But what does that mean? By investing in the UK we can help boost local economies, increase jobs, and hopefully improve contributions to your pension pot. Over a fifth of our investments are based in the UK, representing around £10 billion in UK assets - and by the end of the decade, we expect to have doubled that. About us
Nest is a great UK success story. Established in 2010, Nest is a critical pillar of the Government’s automatic enrolment programme, with a public service obligation (PSO) to accept any employer wishing to use the scheme to discharge their automatic enrolment duties. From a standing start, we have delivered a high quality, low cost pension scheme open to all, which has not only delivered on its mission, but has also helped to drive up standards and best practice across the industry. Now with over 12 million members and well over half a million participating employers, Nest is playing a critical role in helping people save for their retirement - many of them low to moderate earners who may be saving for the first time, and moving jobs frequently. Nest now occupies an important place in the pensions market and will deliver high quality pensions to mass market consumers for many years to come, leveraging its scale to deliver value through the combination of low costs, market leading investment solutions and modernised services all overseen by strong Trustee governance.

Our Head of Sustainability Strategy, Katharina Lindmeier, CFA, contributed to the DCIF’s report into The Path to Net Zero and believes that while we think that reaching net zero by 2050 is in the best interests of our members, the entire economy needs to shift to net zero to achieve that. “Achieving net zero isn’t just a pledge for Nest, it is an active journey that we have always taken meaningfully because it is in the best interests of our members. No single actor can achieve net zero along. At Nest, we continue to work closely with fund managers, companies and policymakers to set and raise ambition and push for meaningful real-world change toward accelerate decarbonisation. The road to transition toward net zero is challenging, but it’s an essential journey to help ensure long-term retirement benefits for our members.” Download the report to read more https://lnkd.in/eQFBvsFH
💚 Out now! 💚 The Path to Net Zero - Our new research report, part of a four-part series, diving into some of the more challenging aspects of ESG. In this study of how pension schemes can create an all-important real-world change, we discuss three stages of the net zero transition, why trustees should make a net zero commitment when your fiduciary duty is to safeguard investors' returns, how schemes can make their voices heard, and share some top tips from other pension schemes. Two of the UK’s biggest pension master trusts, Nest and now:pensions, are interviewed in the report. Katharina Lindmeier, CFA, Nest’s senior responsible investment manager, voices her concerns that the transition will be “really challenging” and expresses concerns that we are not heading in the right direction at a global level. Download The Path to Net Zero report today and discover tangible ideas of how to overcome the stumbling blocks to reaching a safer, greener and more climate-conscious future. https://lnkd.in/eQFBvsFH

Beth started her business by selling second hand scarves on social media and at markets. Five years on, she owns a physical shop on the newly revitalised Kingland Crescent – a high street in Poole, Dorset. Nest members invested in the revitalisation project – led by Legal & General– that helped small business owners, like Beth. She’s one of 10 entrepreneurs on the high street who received two years rent completely free. We spoke to Beth to learn more about her journey and how the investment into Poole has helped her.

10 years ago, Steve was homeless and suffering from drug addiction. Having learnt furniture restoration in rehab, he was able to turn his negative habits into positive ones and dedicated his time to perfecting his new craft. Today, he’s the proud of a furniture restoration shop, Restored Retro, in Poole, Dorset – and that’s in part thanks to your pension investments. Through our partnership with Legal & General, we’ve invested some of your pension savings into property projects across the UK, including an initiative to help revitalise Poole’s high street. Steve is one of 10 entrepreneurs that were given the opportunity to set up a shop in the town centre. We sat down with Steve, to hear more about his story and how getting into furniture restoration has changed his life.

Today, in Westminster, CIOs of the UK’s largest pensions funds and largest local Government pension pool and senior UK Government officials came together to discuss the policy recommendations outlined in Mobilising pension capital for net zero: a policy blueprint for the UK. We’re proud to partner with IFM Investors to highlight the cross-sector reforms that, we believe, will enable crowding in pension capital at scale, giving investors of pension capital greater clarity and confidence in the UK market. This is a first-time collaboration between Nest, IFM investors, and some of the largest pension funds in the UK and Australia. The blueprint calls for policy reforms that aim to crowd in pension capital to support investment in the UK’s net zero transition, drive economic growth and deliver appropriate risk-adjusted returns on workers’ retirement savings.
