We're delighted to share Friday last week, we held our first ever bring your child to work day.🚸 👷♂️ The participating children had the chance to hear some fun facts about the railway 🚂 try their hand at signalling practice using robots 🤖 and built some incredible bridges 🌉 using spaghetti and marshmallows (the ones that weren't eaten). 🍭 It was hard to tell who had more fun the children or parents ❤️ We can't wait to hold our next event in the October half term. 🎃 #Foreveryonetolovehighspeedrail

Research and Development (R&D) at NRHS 📰🔬🔎 Together with guests from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), RSSB, Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, Southeastern Railway and Eurostar we held a Research and Development showcase joint with HS1 Ltd and 16 of our key suppliers. The aim of the Showcase was to bring together our key stakeholders to demonstrate the innovative successes we've had in the R&D space. Key highlights included a presentation from a PHD student from the University of Nottingham👨🎓 an interactive lunchtime supplier marketplace, and presentations about the future data management and AI 🤖 A huge thank you to everyone who attended and we can't wait to see what the future of R&D looks like in High Speed 🚆 #ForEveryoneToLoveHighSpeedRail

This week is the Festival of Inclusion at Network Rail High Speed which is an opportunity to focus, discuss, challenge and understand how we can continue to build inclusivity into the team. Yesterday we took time out for an annual conference to discuss what inclusion means for us. This was supported by our Exec team and we had great discussion with team members from across the breadth of the organisation. I found the micro-aggressions session particularly beneficial, the takeaways for me were developing psychological safety and giving everyone an opportunity to discuss and grow together.

Meet our TCS apprentice William Luff 👋 Our Telecoms and Control Systems (TCS) team fix and maintain all of our Operational Control Systems on our high speed railway. They're a fundamental team of system engineers available 24/7 to respond to service effecting faults and ensuring that we can run and maintain a safe, reliable railway for our passengers 🚆 We asked our apprentice, Will Luff, what he most enjoys about his job, and we hope his answer inspires you to consider a role in our TCS team at NRHS 👨🔧 ⭐ Since starting the TCS role I've particularly enjoyed the fault-finding process when attending various sites. I've travelled to many sites within Section 1 and section 2 such as Cheriton Road, Corsica Street, Essex Portal, Graham Road etc. The problem-solving aspect of the job has helped me to create a more comprehensive picture in my mind about how the different systems interlink. Rather than being told how to solve something straight away, I've been tested and asked questions by my colleagues, testing me as we work on the issue. I've learnt a lot about the EMMIS, DTN and CCTV systems but have taken a particular interest in the EMMIS system as it seems to be the most methodical way of working for me. To add to this, the team has been very welcoming and friendly, and I owe everything I've learnt to them.⭐ #ForEveryoneToLoveHighSpeedRail

Last week, St. Pancras International station welcomed representatives from Groupe SNCF, France's national state-owned railway company, for a visit aimed at understanding how UK stations operate. 🤔🚄 Chosen by SNCF, colleagues from our St. Pancras International station team (Dan Lucas, Daniel Morrison, Harry Smith & Claire Reading-Moorhouse AIOSH ACIRO among others) offered insights into various aspects of station management, including... passenger handling, assistance services, safety protocols, and facilities management. The visit included a detailed presentation followed by a guided tour, showcasing our station's control room and operational procedures. Topics discussed ranged from coordination with our control centres to handling suspicious items, highlighting our unique approaches and the benefits they bring. SNCF representatives actively engaged with the session and had lots of questions for us, finding the experience enlightening and worthwhile. 🤩   This visit aligned closely with our three business priorities: 👫 - Looking after our people: By emphasizing safety improvements and the welfare of both passengers and colleagues 💼 - Evolving our business: By showcasing innovations and advancements in our business 📈 - Improving performance: By focusing on enhancing overall performance through streamlined processes and enhanced passenger experiences, such as the introduction of Station Matters Business Cards and improved event/queue management techniques.   A big thank you to everyone in our team who made the visit such a success and we hope SNCF enjoyed their time with us! 👏🏼 #ForEveryoneToLoveHighSpeedRail
