Directors Claudia Chinyere Akole and Bonnie Taylor Forsyth’s addition to She Creates Change created for Room to Read takes us to Tanzania to discover the story of Naifat. The beautifully crafted 2D short was created in collaboration with Mighty Nice. After her parents’ divorce punished her self-esteem, Naifat discovered music and found newfound confidence in herself and her future through the power of her own voice. Imbued with joy and hope, scored by a bespoke composition created by Lucie Treacher. Co-director Claudia Chinyere Akole had this to share, “Naifat's story gave us the opportunity to adapt my traditional art practice that utilizes multiple layers of POSCA acrylic paint markers into a style that showcased the bright and lush Tanzanian environment while also visualizing the more abstract concept of sound and the role of Naifat's ‘inner song’.”

From her earlier work to her most recent release, new Nexus Studios signing Hannah Lau-Walker's style remains informed by personal experience while connected to universal themes. 🎥 Yeah, I’m Good Thanks tackles a timeless subject in a contemporary setting. Abstractions and visual metaphors drive the thematic messages, while the effective use of simple type reflects a painfully relatable thought process. Winner of the Depict British Award 2022. Selected at over 25 international festivals, including the British Animation Awards, Brussels Independent Film Festival, Monstra, and Fest Anča.

Sharing some more of our favourite work from our latest signing Hannah Lau-Walker. Hannah’s been in our orbit for some time now, and over the course of multiple collaborations everyone at Nexus Studios loves championing her work. Co-Founder and CCO, Chris O'Reilly had this to share, “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Hannah over the past few years, and we’re beyond excited to officially welcome her to the Nexus Studios roster of directing talent. She’s a true creative force—an imaginative storyteller and a natural leader in collaborative projects. Hannah is shaping the animation industry on and off the screen, and the kind of exceptional talent that we are proud to champion.” 🎥 Barcelona Hannah landed a Vimeo Staff Pick for this short film which translated her experience at an artist residency in the Catalonia capital into an impressionistic, visual experience featuring tiles coming to life, the freedom of Spanish beaches and grandmas clambering over impossibly large veggies.
