🎉Reflecting on the year🎉 Being a part of the Impact: The Local Government Graduate Programme (formerly the NGDP) in Barking And Dagenham (B&D) has given me with the opportunity to take part in a lot of high profile projects that pertain to public services. I started in Oct 2023 and being in my final year I feel led to discuss some of these key experiences. My first six months was in Adult Social Care- Safeguarding- and I was entrusted with a task to lead design independently for an easy read leaflet on the different types of abuse. Given B&D's high domestic abuse rates (16.8 domestic per 1,000 people‼️), the leaflet aimed to create accessible information for those with learning disabilities and raise awareness about various abuse forms and available council services. Taking sole creative direction was stimulating but it was only successful in as far as it was functional and comprehensible. Feedback, therefore, from groups like Forward Together was crucial and valuable. The leaflet is available to the safeguarding team and I've attached some of the pages. 📹Another project I’m particularly proud of was the creation of a short documentary based on community visits I was able to join alongside Joanne Kitching and Anju (Harmit) Ahluwalia BEM. We visited food banks, shared housing accommodations and the community hubs. The hubs, in particular, function to serve residents in a unique way, providing: 1. Information and Advice 2. Digital Support 3. Health Services 4. Financial Support 5. Community Events 📈 In a discussion with the graduates today led by Tim Pearse, Head of Insight and Innovation, I discovered just how systematic this hub design is. He shared that data existing in confined silos makes for a less effective approach to solving a residents concern. But taking the approach to connect data allows for more nuanced solutions. When residents give their consent, community hubs are able to access a broad range of data across areas of education, health and finance well-being. This integrated data approach empowers local authorities to develop holistic, data-driven solutions that truly address community needs. With an interest in data analytics, I'm excited to see how the fusion of data and innovation will continue to shape the landscape of B&D. Going on these visits, I filmed, edited and formatted the footage and it is being used internally to help inform stakeholders about the lived experiences of people in the borough and the type of support available. It was truly a privilege to be part of these visits, learning directly from those in our community. These experiences have reinforced my passion for designing inclusive resources and ensuring that vulnerable communities are heard and supported. I'm excited to continue this work in the future! Thank you to Joanne Kitching,Rabeya Ali and all the other colleagues who supported me on that placements. #Safeguarding #InclusiveDesign #SocialCare #PublicSectorInnovation #data

Impact: The Local Government Graduate Programme (formerly the NGDP) reposted this
So excited to share that I’m part of the marketing for Impact: The Local Government Graduate Programme (formerly the NGDP) at the London Borough of Sutton! Honestly, if you’d told me this would happen 2 years ago when I wanted to get on what was then the NGDP, I’d not have believed you, and that’s without all the incredible opportunities I’ve had through the graduate scheme at Sutton! You can see the website advertising the graduate scheme at Sutton here - https://lnkd.in/ezBMAj9B Between working on huge regeneration projects like the London Cancer Hub, infrastructure projects, like the effort to double the number of trains from London Victoria to Belmont, or presenting to Local Committees for the Council’s Public Realm Fund - the graduate scheme at Sutton has given me so many opportunities. I’ve learned so much from the projects I’ve worked on and the colleagues I’ve worked with. When they advertise the scheme, they tell you you’ll be thrown into big projects, taking a lead and learning how local government works, and this has absolutely been the case for me. This #ImpactWeek, if you haven’t before - consider local government as the route to start your career in, or change your career into, and especially consider Sutton as a place to do it!
