  • Today is National Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Day. Since 2020, our cancer nurse specialist (CSN) teams have supported more than 8,500 patients through their cancer diagnosis and treatment. CSNs are expert clinicians, advocates, and sources of unwavering support for patients and families during some of the most challenging times of their lives. Their greatest contribution is their ability to blend clinical expertise with emotional and psychological care - ensuring that every patient receives not just treatment, but also understanding, dignity, and hope. 📷 We asked CSNs Claire, Laura, and Amanda why their role means so much to them.

  • Healthcare Improvement Scotland has published a report on its unannounced follow-up inspection of wards at the Victoria Hospital in December. The three-day visit was to monitor progress made from earlier unannounced inspections in July and August 2023. Despite the visit taking place during winter when the hospital was under considerable pressure, it was noted that the areas inspected were calm and well led with hospital teams working together to provide compassionate care. The report also notes: ✔️ open and supportive culture amongst staff ✔️ patients and relatives complimentary of care and staff ✔️ good oversight of both clinical and wider system pressures Some areas were identified where action is required, including the availability of alcohol-based hand sanitiser, the safe storage of cleaning products and better showering facilities in the two wards within the older part of the hospital. Work is underway to address these issues quickly, with some of these actions already completed. More: https://brnw.ch/21wRiuH

In February, we hosted our annual Edinburgh Napier University Nursing & Midwifery Career Day 🩺 We were delighted to welcome more than 450 students and almost 100 healthcare professionals to our Sighthill Campus. The event provided an invaluable opportunity for students to connect with employers and learn more about exciting roles in nursing and midwifery. Thank you to all the organisations and attendees who made this event a success 👏 #DifferenceMakers #EdinburghNapierUniversity #Nursing #Midwifery NHS Lothian / The William Quarrier Scottish Epilepsy Centre / NHS Fife / NHS Forth Valley / NHS Tayside / NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde / NHS Borders / Royal College of Nursing - Company / Randolph Hill Nursing Homes Group LTD / British Army / Royal Navy /Royal Air Force (RAF) / Marie Curie UK / NHS 24 / Nuffield Health / Spire Healthcare Group plc / Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS)

  • Our commitment to staff cycling has earned us the Cycling Scotland Friendly Employer Award. The award is a nationally recognised program run by Cycling Scotland, which encourages organisations to make cycling easier for staff. We've created a cycle-friendly environment at the Victoria Hospital, which includes: 🚲 safe bike storage 🚲 helping staff purchase bikes at a reduced price 🚲 a staff forum to discuss active and sustainable travel. In addition to promoting staff health and wellbeing, encouraging cycling helps reduce traffic and congestion in and around our sites, improving the environment and minimising our carbon footprint. Achieving cycling friendly employer status would not have been possible without our partnership with local charity, Greener Kirkcaldy. In addition to offering free regular bike maintenance and safety checks by experienced mechanics, Greener Kirkcaldy also offered cycle training at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels for healthcare staff in Fife.
