Astonished. I was in Milan speaking at the impressive Performance Strategies Italia Leadership Forum yesterday led by Marcello Mancini. My speech was titled: 5 Steps to #Longevity #Leadership (see comments for article summary link) I discovered, in the conversation and feedback afterwards, that this was a new conversation for most of the Italian corporate leaders in the room. It's not on their strategic radar or ExCo agenda. How can this be? 👉 Italy is the OLDEST country in Europe. 👉 the 2nd oldest in the world after Japan 👉 it has a fertility rate of 1.2 (when replacement to keep population steady is 2.1) 👉 its demographic pyramid has flipped upside down So what? 10 Reasons Italian Business Leaders should care about these Ageing Demographics: 📣 44% of Italians are over 50 – and growing! Earlier this year, NICA partnered with Department for Business and Trade, UKRI China and the Guangdong Silver Industry Association for a healthy longevity summit in Guangdong. Whilst disappointed not to be back in-person today, we were very much there in spirit (and via video 🐨 Nicola Palmarini) for the continuation of this important forum. As Nic commented, 'occasions such as this event are the basis for designing our future of longevity, they are the platform on which we can imagine our research perspective and their impact on the everyday life.’ Over a third of China’s population will be 60+ by 2050, and there is both a need and a strong will to innovate to address the challenges and opportunities this will pose.  There is huge scope to collaborate between the UK and China, to share expertise and to develop new products that will benefit people globally.
