A safe, loving foster home can mean everything to a foster child. Relationships made can last forever, giving foster mums, foster dads and children who foster a huge extended family. This new film, ‘Everything,’ produced in collaboration with more than 100 councils across the UK, follows foster carer Mike and his family on a journey through time with two of the children they have looked after, who are now adults. A surprise 60th birthday party for Mike gives Will and Zara a chance to reflect on how being fostered made a difference to their lives, and to thank him for everything. Mike's son Chris plays an essential role throughout, showing just how important children who foster are. Could you foster? Norfolk Fostering Service urgently needs more fosters carers to work with us. We're at the heart of children's services, working to keep children rooted in our local community here in Norfolk, so that local children can thrive. For World Mental Health Day Norfolk County Council's Talent Team took some time out and had a lovely wellbeing walk and lunch in the cafe at Waterloo Park in Norwich. 🚶♀️ 🌯 🥗 It was so lovely to get together to chat rather than 'talk work'. We were joined by Rolo and Oscar (the fury friends) and the lovely Lally who was impeccably behaved after the offer of chocolate buttons! 🐶 🐕 👶 Our chats ranged from dance schools, local TV presenters seen out running to toastie makers! So it was a real break from the norm and was great to get some fresh air, stretch our legs and connect with team mates. 💗 #worldmentalhealthday #WMHD2024 #Norfolk #NCCbethedifference

♻️ How many recycled bottles does it take to make a boardwalk? 🌊 We recently hosted an official opening of the Brancaster boardwalk – a new 2km structure along the Norfolk coast. Built with longevity and accessibility at its heart, the boards are made with a core of recycled bottles with an expected lifespan or at least 75 years! We also made it as accessible to as many people as we could, with… ✅ Enough width to accommodate both wheelchair users and pushchairs ✅ Frequent passing places for everyone to safely pass ✅ High contrast bumper strips to make it easier for people living with dementia ✅ Plenty of viewing points and rest spots ✅ A non-slip surface – extra grip Councillor Andrew Jamieson, our deputy leader, was on hand to do the honours with the ribbon.

There's huge diversity in what we do at Norfolk County Council which means there's a wealth of different roles and engaging career paths. Alison is one of our amazing Social Workers and tells us, "I work in a team supporting older people and people with disabilities. It's a privilege to be allowed into people's lives and enable them to make changes to difficulties they are facing. For anyone considering a career in social work, I'd say do it. Be the social worker you'd want to visit you, be an advocate, fight for people's human rights and social justice - this is at the heart of social work."
