After five years of successful and enjoyable work as Joint Head of Chambers at Normanton Chambers, Jonathan Dingle FRSA has stepped back from the role. His friend and current Joint Head Andrea Barnes will now be the sole Head of Chambers. All at Normanton thank Jonathan for his vision and outstanding energy and wish him well as he continues his busy practice – one which will be increasingly focused on dispute resolution through Normanton Mediation. Jonathan can still be contacted on the usual numbers and emails for both Bar and Mediation work.

Having (im)politely declined Chris Linnitt's kind offer to accompany him on his ascent of Mont Blanc next month, I struggled to turn down his follow up invitation "you'll come up Ben Nevis with me though, as part of my training?" Chris is an above the knee amputee and is climbing Mont Blanc on June 5th to raise funds for LimbPower and Alcohol Change UK so, on Saturday we braced ourselves for what turned out to be 15+ hours on the mountain together, as part of his training for Mont Blanc. At times it felt like a cross between Withnail & I (without the booze) and Touching The Void (without the disaster) but we got up and down without mishap, fuelled by Fruit Pastilles, sausage rolls and laughter on the way up, and ibuprofen, fresh mountain water and the occasional grunt on the way down. It was tough at times but as I'm not an above the knee amputee, I can hardly complain. Don't tell Chris but it was a truly humbling and inspirational journey and I'm proud to call him my friend. I've included Chris's fundraiser page in the comments as I know he would be very grateful if any of my contacts would like to help him reach his sponsorship target for LimbPower and Alcohol Change UK #amputeelawyer #amputeelaw #limbpower #alcoholchangeuk #fruitpastilles #ibuprofen

It is a joy to be able to do it: things were a bit different when I was at King's College London but very good for their times. Now it is so good to innovate and to bring inspirational people to KCL. I have to say though each year the Faculty is itself inspired by the energy and insights the course attendees bring! Monday (19th) will be exciting. We are ready!

I shared some weekend thoughts from my forthcoming writing with some mediator friends. They reached Corfu (!) where with The Society of Mediators we are running an amazing subsidised course from 15-19 April in Arillas Buddha Hall - and with beach and yoga sessions. New, novice and experienced mediators will love it. £600. Book https://lnkd.in/eY34D6Zi : you make your own way (flight £37 on easy jet) and find an apartment (£175 a week) and we do the inspiring. 40 hours CPD and accreditation!

Fixed Recoverable Costs! Here are some takeaway points following the consultation: The Fixed Recoverable Costs (‘FRC’) regime will be amended to increase advocacy fees in civil cases where cases are vacated by the court or settle late in the day. The Civil Procedure (Amendment) Rules 2024 will provide clarity about what is, and is not, included in the ’20-page limit’ for expert reports. Where a claim for clinical negligence may be allocated to the intermediate track, rather than the multi-track, there should be an early admission of liability in the pre-action protocol letter of response. This should be a full admission of liability. The government will fix the costs of Part 8 (costs only) claims. The uprated FRC figures will come into force as expected in April 2024. Finally, the FRC regime will be reviewed again in October 2026.

Thank you to my friend Chris Linnitt of Beyond Legal for inviting me to take part with him in yesterday's #dryjanuary 10k trail run at Pippingford Park in Sussex. It was a bit of a challenge for me, not having run more than 5k for a few years but I'm in awe of Chris for doing 10k as an above the knee amputee. It was a privilege to participate in such an inspirational and thought provoking event in support of Alcohol Change UK and thanks to Ollie Ollerton and all the BREAK-POINT - Corporate and Leadership Training team for the fantastic organisation making for a very memorable day out. #amputeelawyer #amputeesport #amputeelaw #alcoholchange #dryjanuary #breakpoint #ollieollerton
