A special meeting of North Ayrshire Council will take place next week where Councillors will learn of the significant financial challenges facing the council over the coming years. A Budget gap of £16 million is expected which will require us to deliver significant savings for 2025/26. Having already cut £84 million from our budget over the previous eight years, frontline services will almost certainly be affected. That means the views of our communities will be essential in helping to shape the future provision of Council services. Next week, we will begin engagement with communities across North Ayrshire - please keep an eye on our social media channels for how you can take part and share your views.

North Ayrshire Council has applied to be part of a national programme that puts residents’ health under the microscope.   The Collaborating for Health Equity in Scotland (CHES) looks at ways to strengthen and accelerate the action underway to improve Scotland's health, increase wellbeing and reduce health inequities. Public Health Scotland and the University College London Institute of Health Equity (IHE) have partnered in the CHES, which will involve three places in Scotland.   Following engagement with partners from the Community Planning Partnership (CPP) and Integration Joint Board (IJB), the Council has submitted an expression of interest for North Ayrshire to be one of the three places involved.   The programme will look at:   ·        The most effective areas for intervention in Scotland to make meaningful progress in closing inequities in healthy life expectancy, which is the average number of years people can expect to live in good health, and   ·        How national and local organisations can work more effectively to close the gap between policy intent and impact in these areas.   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eibPikVu

A warm welcome has helped children and their families settle in to a new Early Years Centre in Irvine. Former tax office Marress House has been transformed into the state-of-the art facility in the grounds of North Ayrshire Council’s Cunninghame House headquarters. The doors have been open for four weeks and Head of Centre Deborah Gott said: “All of the Early Years Centres in North Ayrshire offer incredible environments and the staff in all communities strive for excellence. “Everyone has settled in quickly. We have a wonderful group of children with amazing families, and our staff team has gone the extra mile to welcome everyone. “It feels like we have been here forever. The future of a former cleansing depot is in safe hands after a Men’s Shed took full ownership of it from North Ayrshire Council. In 2020, Garnock Valley Men’s Shed was granted a 25-year lease of the Cleansing and Ground Maintenance Depot at Ladysmith Road, Kilbirnie, through a Community Asset Transfer (CAT) and has now bought it outright. The Scottish Men's Sheds Association gives people in communities across Scotland a place to meet up and make new friends and also learn new skills and enjoy practical things like woodwork, playing musical instruments and model building. At a recent Cabinet meeting, it was agreed to sell the property to the group through a CAT for £2750 – which is a 95 per cent discount on the £55,000 value.
