Our Salford Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has celebrated its first anniversary of opening. In that time the CDC has helped deliver more than 19,000 tests to NHS patients in the local area. In recognition of the milestone, the centre welcomed a special guest, Professor Sir Mike Richards, chairman, Independent Review of Diagnostic Services at NHS England, for a visit. Located at West One Retail Park Salford CDC is operated in partnership with InHealth providing the latest diagnostic imaging and scans to patients. It also has a teledermatology clinic that uses digital cameras to triage, diagnose and assess skin conditions managing patients with suspected skin cancer at pace.

The Northern Care Alliance is an NHS Foundation Trust (NCA FT) created by bringing together two NHS Trusts, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. The NCA FT was formally established on 1 October 2021. The NCA has been working together as a group since 2016. Who are we? Our dedicated team of around 20,000 staff – our NCA Family – provide a range of community and hospital services to over one million people across Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Salford, as well as providing more specialist care to patients across Greater Manchester and beyond. Patients and service users may receive a range of integrated health and social care services at their home or in their community or be treated and cared for in one of our four hospitals – Salford Royal Hospital, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary or Fairfield General Hospital in Bury. Our aim is to save lives and improve lives. When motorcyclist Steven Withnall suffered life-changing injuries in a head on collision it was a matter of life or death but thanks to a team of almost 40 people, he is now back on the road to recovery. Steven was the rider of a motorbike when it collided head on with a van, leaving him with a long list of serious injuries that will require ongoing treatment for years to come. A total of 37 people were involved in Steven’s care, starting from the moment the 999 call was made from the scene. The list includes roles such as: - 999 call handler - Anaesthetists - Nurse consultant - Surgeon - Physiotherapists - Radiologists - Theatre staff - Dietitian - Psychologist - Pain team - Plastic surgeons - Orthopaedics - Healthcare assistant - Advanced care practitioners - Helicopter emergency medical service patient liaison - Pharmacist - Limb reconstruction specialist nurse Just 16 months since the incident in Warrington, Steven made a special trip to the Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital at Salford Royal to meet some members of the team who have helped get him back on the road to recovery.

Robotic-assisted surgery can offer patients demonstrated benefits compared with open surgery. These can include reduced blood loss; reduced risk of infection; fewer complication; reduced length of stay thanks to improved recovery time; and reduced chance of readmission. Happy Birthday to our volunteer Ted Jones who has turned 90 with colleagues and friends throwing him a surprise party to celebrate. He has devoted 15 years to the volunteers' team at Salford Royal and has been a firm favourite since the day he started. Shirley Wallwork, volunteer coordinator, said: “Ted is an extremely popular volunteer who is loved by all. He is an inspiration and can usually be seen delivering samples to the labs or walking lost visitors to their appointments.” #Volunteer #NHS
