At Scotland’s first female business incubator space, The HIVE, we celebrated International Women’s Day with a visit from pupils from Airdrie Academy who took part in a Bee The Boss event. The pupils swapped the classroom for a day in the life of a female entrepreneur. They carried out research with local businesses and heard from three women who are now self-employed, after receiving support from The HIVE. Their stories helped inspire the pupils to develop their own creative and innovative business ideas. The HIVE in Airdrie opened its doors a year ago offering bookable desks, offices, meeting rooms, beauty and well-being treatment rooms as well as free one-to-one counselling and support, access to training and events. Pupils from Brannock High School are engaging in practical workshops to investigate careers in joinery, electrical installation, and plumbing as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week. The Talent Tasters sessions, created by Mears in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) and schools in North Lanarkshire, seek to inspire more young women to explore careers in trades traditionally dominated by men.
