This Global Recycling Day, let’s go beyond the bin and rethink takeaway packaging. While recycling is important, we can aim for even better solutions to our plastic crisis. Did you know: ♻️ Only 9% of plastic ever produced has been recycled? 🌎 90% of plastic pollution comes from single-use items like takeaway boxes and cutlery. ⏰ Conventional packaging can take up to 500 years to break down, leaving microplastics in our environment. Notpla means no plastic. Using seaweed, we developed the first and only government verified plastic-free coating for food packaging. Let’s shift from waste management to waste elimination, and rethink where our waste ends up. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gJCbGbEA #GlobalRecyclingDay #EcoInnovation #PlasticFree #SustainablePackaging

A year ago, we set out to change stadium packaging for the better – this weekend, we were joined on the pitch with royalty to celebrate the impact. After an intense Six Nations clash between England and Wales at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, our co-founder Rodrigo met with the Prince and Princess of Wales (THR) and Jonathan Davies, MD of Levy UK + Ireland, to reflect on the tangible progress that’s been made in tackling plastic waste in stadiums. In just 12 months of working with Levy UK + Ireland, Notpla’s seaweed-lined food packaging has been rolled out across some of the world’s most iconic venues – from Villa Park to The O2, the Allianz Arena to the Kia Oval and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – helping to drive down plastic waste and lowering carbon impact at scale. Thanks to the support of Compass Cymru, Wales has been a nation to inspire others, switching to Notpla’s compostable packaging across all three of its major stadiums. This move alone is set to replace over 750,000 single-use plastic packaging items across Principality Stadium, Cardiff City FC, and the Swansea.com Stadium. This is what the future of sustainable sport should look like! As a proud The Earthshot Prize winner, we’re even more motivated to continue scaling our efforts in sustainability and driving positive change across the world. What’s your local stadium doing to tackle plastic waste? Drop a comment and let us know where you’d like to see the switch to Notpla next. #PlasticFreeMatchdays #Notpla #SustainableStadiums

We were excited to join the GBS Summit as a leading voice in biomaterials and sustainable innovation. Our Innovation Director, Karlijn Sibbel, took the stage to share how nature’s unseen solutions can help us rethink packaging for a better, waste-free future. Karlijn highlighted: “The chemical properties that have made plastic so incredibly useful also make it difficult to dispose of, with some types taking thousands—even tens of thousands—of years to degrade. Using a durable material like plastic in short single-use packaging application doesn’t make sense.” Nature has already mastered packaging - think of fruit peel. It protects, preserves, and disappears when it’s no longer needed. At Notpla, we’re creating packaging that works the same way. Made from seaweed and plants, our materials are designed to disappear naturally - no microplastics, no waste, just packaging as nature intended. Let’s continue the journey together and make single-use plastic a thing of the past 🌿 #Notpla #SustainableInnovation #PlasticFreeFuture #TheEarthshotPrize #RethinkPackaging
