🏆 Award winner! 🏆 Our work to clean up Longridge Road has won first prize at the Brighter Kensington & Chelsea Awards. Back in the summer we were contacted by councillor Linda Wade, who wanted to raise awareness and get some volunteers for a ‘clean up and green up’ event. We arranged for materials such as soil and gravel to be provided on the day and we had both resident and staff volunteers come along. Other partners who helped out include Rassells Nurseries, tlc Estate Agents and the Volunteer Centre Kensington & Chelsea. 👉 https://bit.ly/40tWHXR

We’re a not-for-profit on a mission to deliver better homes, connections and places. We're making London home.
About us
We’re a not-for-profit organisation providing more affordable homes for Londoners. A home provides the basis for a stable and healthy society, but the capital’s housing crisis means that for too many Londoners, a home is out of reach. We’re a not-for-profit organisation with a focus on providing quality homes at below-market rents for people who would otherwise struggle to afford them. We are both a landlord and a developer, with more than 60,000 existing homes and 10,000 more in our pipeline, and a well-established commercial business from which we reinvest surpluses to support the provision of below market-rent homes across the capital. Founded in the 1960s to address slum conditions in west London, we’re now one of London’s largest charitable housing associations and a leading advocate and trusted partner to local councils and government, giving Londoners a base and community from which to achieve their potential. Powered by half a billion pounds of investment through our Better Together strategy, we’re on a mission to improve how we deliver even better quality homes, connections and places for our 130,000 existing residents. Alongside working better together for our residents, we’ll also continue to build and develop new and more affordable homes, so that more people can continue to make London home. On Saturday, 26th of October I had the pleasure of being a guest of honour at the Black History Month event on Grahame Park, alongside Bina Omare, AQ Ali, Sherine McFarlane and Cali ibrahim. Notting Hill Genesis (NHG) sponsored the event for the 2nd year running. The event was hosted by Center of Excellence and Zamzam Ibrahim and included thought-provoking speeches from community leader Mohamed Duale, The Mayor of Barnet, AQ Ali, and MP David Pinto-Duschinsky. It was also great to see Councillors, local businesses, and social influencers from the Somali community attend the event. Other activities on the day included prayers, poetry, amazing Somali food, and a DJ. For the first time, the community got to see the new NHG sponsored Grahame Park Football Club kits that will be worn by 80 young people that attend the Community Sports Club managed by Hawa Abdi's wonderful community organisation, Center of Excellence and SportInspired. Each kit with the name of the young person on the back so they can be proud playing Football just like their favourite teams. I have been working with Hawa Abdi for nearly two years to help capacity build this pillar of the community who has brought together staff and volunteers to advocate for the Somali community and introduce projects that have integrated the entire community of Grahame Park. The community sports club is a great example of this integration. We supported the pilot project by funding SportInspired to work in collaboration with Center of Excellence. SportInspired brought in professional coaches to initially run the sessions and at the same time began training residents to become FA Level 1 and 2 qualified Football Coaches. The resident coaches have now finished their qualifications and are being paid to run sessions supervised by the pro coaches. In 2025, the project will be completely community led. The community sports club is so popular it is now getting match funding from Saracens Foundation to introduce extra Girls only sessions. The Boys and Girls Football sessions happen at Saracens High School every week and attract 60-80 young people per week including young people from the Grahame Park estate and Saracens High School students. The community sports club is still looking for funding to ensure this wonderful project is sustainable after January 2025. Please get in touch with Hawa Abdi if you think you can support in anyway or if you have any contacts that will help Hawa build her network of influence. I am proud to have worked with such wonderful people like Hawa Abdi and be a part of creating positive social impact on the Grahame Park estate. It has been a highlight of my career. I can't wait to see what Center of Excellence do next.

Today we bought Notting Hill Genesis resident engagement and sustainability strategy to life with multiple resident events across London. Working with our suppliers Nexgen Group and Axis Careers who both provided volunteers from their companies we were able improve biodiversity on our sites. A big thanks to the NHG staff who set this up including Mandy and Christopher Bell part of Sophie Trotman and George Clarke teams. It was nice to work alongside residents and colleagues as our places model was in full swing. Well done to Clare, Michael Owolabi, Zoe Haines and Johir for their hard work today. Increasing resident satisfaction is the an ambition of all HAs but have found hard to resolve. One way to look at the problem is though the lens of (legal) disrepairs. Here we trained a sequence model (Machine Learning) to understand the cause of disrepair beyond the obvious, in other words, root causes; and also the homes most likely to be at risk of disrepair. We can then prioritise those properties, tenancies etc to be more more focused on solving the "tipping" problems that lead to disrepairs. This will more generally also increase overall perceived dissatisfaction.

📢 Why housing associations can solve the housing crisis! Our chief executive Patrick Franco talked to Graham Ruddick on the the Business Leader podcast with Andy Hulme from The Hyde Group, Sarah Jones (she/her) from Anchor and Greg Reed from Places for People to discuss the issues facing the housing sector and how we are doing our best to meet them head on. Patrick says: "I think that we are in a state of emergency, government needs to call it like it is. This needs to be treated like Covid because this is equally as dangerous and it's been festering too long." 👉 https://bit.ly/3BXRM7e

💚 Sustainability on our estates! 💚 We’ve been working on some fantastic sustainability initiatives on our estates to make going green easier for residents. This includes: ♻ Teaming up with Heavens Yard, clients of Lavastar, to upcycle our advertising banner into items like backpacks, windbreakers and deckchairs. 👚 Installing Traid bins across our estates so residents can donate clothes which get a second lease of life at charity shops across London. 🌱 Working with residents at Manor Place Depot to revitalise their community garden to boost biodiversity. 👉 https://bit.ly/4eOGssC Sophie Trotman, Umberto Merlo, Christopher Bell, Holly Lancaster, Quianna Farquharson
