  • Update from our #Norway Team ✈ Our Chief Test Pilot Andrew Larkman and Flight Test Engineer Tom Whittingham conducted a familiarisation flight last week on the C-130J Super Hercules, ahead of starting the Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) of the Block 8.1.1 upgrade within the next few weeks. Market-leading Test & Evaluation (T&E) is the core of Nova Systems’ operational heritage and expertise. Our team in Norway is continuing that, supporting the Norwegian Ministry of Defence in what is our first fixed-wing project in the region. #WeAreNova

  • Congratulations Claire Adams, Project & Programme Management Consultant in our Capability Services Program team, on her 4* Commendation for Project Management services whilst serving in the MOD from General Sir James Hockenhull. “I had the honour to attend a ceremony to receive my 4* Commendation for leadership in the delivery of operational IT to QUEEN ELIZABETH class aircraft carriers," she says. "It was a moment of immense pride for me and completely unexpected - thanks go to my ex-team, Navy and ships staff for the award".

  • “The energy, passion and enthusiasm of #engineers makes it a pleasure to project manage…although this does provide challenges as well!” Continuing the conversation following International Women in Engineering Day, we’re shining a light on members of our wider team - what drew them to a their career, and their vision for the future. Claire Adams is a Project & Programme Management consultant in the Maritime Digital environment. “There are always challenges that engineering projects bring; always delays due to technical issues and problems which you must work through – a good team is essential for success, as is the ability to be innovative. “I was a Crown Servant for over 30 years, working across Logistics, Training and Project Management. Prior to joining Nova, I was delivered deployed ICT to Front-Line Commands – Maritime, Air, Land and Royal Marines – deploying complex capabilities (within the auspices of Defence Digital) to the QEC Aircraft Carriers, working closely with my in-house Engineering team. "The future of engineering is so exciting. The speed that technology is advancing in all sectors, and from which Defence can leverage off other sectors is astonishing. "My advice for women considering a career in engineering is feel empowered and confident of your abilities. We bring a different perspective, and provide balance, to the workplace. "It is still a male dominated world, so approach work in a measured way. Use those excellent skills we process – listen, then have the confidence to speak and do not let others speak over you. "It can be tough for women, but in my career to date I have navigated through by remembering ‘respect is earned and is not a right’. Follow your heart and passion, not what others think!”. #WeAreNova #IWED24

  • Matthew Hood, our Head of Practice, recently presented at the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) Warship conference on "The Shape of Fleets to Come" looking at past naval fleets and forward to 2045. He explored how a radical new concept platform can be assured progressively throughout its life-cycle to deliver operational capability faster than traditional warship procurement processes. • We’re proud to support #ArmedForcesDay, when the nation unites to honour the service of the Armed Forces community. We recognise our veteran and reservist employees, their families and the wider community, and as proud signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant, we extend our thanks – and professional hand - to those currently serving, and their families and dependants.

  • As part of International Women in Engineering Day, we’re shining a light on members of our engineering team; what drew them to a career in engineering and their vision for the future. “I'm excited about how more women may be working at all levels within engineering in the future. This will be amazing for younger women (like myself, back at college), for them to be inspired by visible role models of women in engineering,” says Sian-Rae W. a Modelling and Simulation Engineer. “The possibilities of simulation – especially within a training context – are what excites me about engineering. But I found my passion for engineering almost by chance. "I was intending to go down a Finance or Law career path but, thanks to a lucky and unplanned enrolment into a Computing taster class whilst at school, my future was set – a degree at the University of Gloucestershire, internships with Boeing and roles as a Software Engineer at Boeing and MBDA all led me to my current role as Modelling and Simulation Engineer at Nova. "I never really had the idea of becoming an engineer when I was a young girl. "I’m not sure if this was due to lack of exposure to options/role models within those types of career paths for young girls - what I liked about studying computing was that it brought out different skills that I didn't know I had. "Plus, imposter syndrome can be real for women in engineering. I found that reframing my thoughts, believing in myself, and trying not to be overly self-critical really helped. Remember to never downplay your skills (even to yourself!). "My advice for anyone who wants to explore a career in engineering is to try out a lot of areas to figure out what you like – this is how I found I loved the challenge of coding, which brought me to Software Engineering and eventually to Modelling and Simulation Engineering.” #WeAreNova #INWED24 #enhancedbyengineering

  • Tom Dutton, one of our P3M Consultant, recently toured HMS Talent - a mid-decommissioning Trafalgar-class nuclear #submarine – in Plymouth, alongside members of UKFutureNEST. UKFutureNEST is a growing and diverse network of young professionals from across the UKNEST organisation (of which Nova is a member). It offers some opportunities for early-career development, workshopping, and networking across the Naval, Civil and Maritime sector. As well as his role at Nova, Tom is also Deputy Chair of UKFutureNEST. “This position gives me the opportunity to not only extend my own network, but to take a lead in organising events with my peers in the UKNEST community, such as visiting HMS Talent,” he said. “Our visit to HMS Talent included a tour of the submarine – where I was able to get a first-hand look the decommissioning process, the reactor, and other key elements of submarine maintenance and engineering – and was followed by two workshops with rest of the 26 strong cohort from UKFutureNEST. “The fact I was given the time to plan and deliver such a day out is testament to Nova’s trust in me to continue my personal development in such an exciting, genuinely unique way.” #WeAreNova

  • 🗣️ PAvCon 2024 did not disappoint! We once again exhibited at the Police Aviation Conference in Austria. 🚁 Our Senior Business Development & Capture Manager Scott Gallagher MBE says of the event: “PAvCon brings together some of Europe’s foremost Airborne Law Enforcement organisations, experts and specialists for 3 days of networking, cross-industry expertise sharing and business development. "As anticipated, I thoroughly enjoyed the numerous opportunities to interact with the Airborne Law Enforcement community and industry alike. "What was evident was how passionate we all are about delivering capability to those charged with looking after our communities, regardless of country or origin. "I was very proud to fly the flag for Nova Systems International, expanding our network base and reaffirming relationships with key contacts, and as one of Europe’s largest Special Mission System Integrators I’m really excited to see how we continue to drive innovation in the Special Mission space.” #WeAreNova #PAvCon2024
