What is World Food Day? 16th October   World Food Day is a global initiative observed annually. The United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation founded International Food Day in 1979, and today, it's celebrated annually across 150 countries. As one of the most high-profile days in the United Nations calendar, a wealth of events take place at all levels every year to mark the day. Around the world, 45 million people – around half of them children – are at risk of starvation. Hungry families do desperate things to survive, often making children more vulnerable to challenges. World Vision supports this important day which raises awareness of hunger and promotes a more sustainable future of food. Learn more about how we're helping children access nutritious food and how you can get involved by chekcing out our website www.worldvision.org.uk #WorldFoodDay

National Baking Week happens every 14th to 20th October in the U.K. Pyrex initially started the holiday back in 2007 with other baking companies to inspire people of all abilities to try their hand at baking at home. National Baking week has been cheered alongside the popular TV show ‘The Great British Bake Off’ which gave baking a huge boost in popularity. It’s inspired many of us to spend more time baking and share ideas with friends and family. There’s nothing better than going for a cuppa and sharing a slice of homemade Victoria sponge is there? #nationalbakingweek

On Friday 11th October, egg lovers around the globe will unite to celebrate World Egg Day, a special day dedicated to the incredible power of eggs and how they connect people. World Egg Day is observed on the second Friday of October each year, encouraging everyone to appreciate the vital role eggs play in communities worldwide. Eggs have a unique way of bringing people together. As a staple ingredient in countless cuisines, eggs are enjoyed on every continent—from a delicate quiche in France to Tamago Sushi in Japan. Eggs are an affordable and environmentally sustainable source of protein and if you have your own chickens you can enjoy the freshest eggs going. Whether served at family breakfasts, festive celebrations, or community gatherings, eggs are more than just food—they’re a symbol of connection and tradition. World Egg Day is a chance to celebrate this humble ingredient and recognize how it brings us closer together through its universal appeal. The big question is, runny or hard yolk? #worldeggday

Banger-tastic: Punters enjoy 'UK's longest bratwurst’ A 12.12m (39.76 ft) bratwurst, which pub bosses claim to be the UK’s longest, has been a sizzling hit for punters. Chefs at The Castle in Droitwich Spa cooked the colossal banger, to celebrate Oktoberfest, the annual German beer event most associated with Munich. They said they had followed a traditional German recipe, and then served it alongside crispy onions, mustard, and curry ketchup. The bratwurst’s length symbolises the 1,212km (753 miles) between the pub and Theresienwiese, the home of Munich’s Oktoberfest celebration. Locals were able to tuck into the extra-large sausage at The Castle pub's event in late September, which also featured an oompah band and stein-holding (strength) competitions. #foodservice #sausages

National Curry Week 7th October National Curry Week was founded in October 1998 by the prominent journalist, the late Peter Grove, who had fallen in love with curry as many of us have before. He took the extra step to express his passion for the Indian stew by creating a holiday for it. He used the opportunity to raise funds for charity. The holiday has been celebrated annually since then nationally. Indian food has become more prominent in our culture, and this exposure has helped to grow the industry and spread the love for Indian food. The British termed all sauce-based dishes ‘curry’ in the 17th century; it was introduced to English cuisine from Anglo-Indian cooking. They began to add spicy sauces to plain boiled and cooked meats. In Britain, curry was served in coffee houses from 1809, and by the 1970s, it had become extremely popular. It's such a popular cuisine and luckily Novus located near Manchester which has a fantastic reputation for ethnic cuisine in the UK. If you are more of a stay-at-home diner, there are many ready meal options and now some great creativity across the food to go section. #nationalcurryweek #productdevelopment

Waitrose introduces the highest standard supermarket British wagyu beef to the No.1 range Five wagyu beef products have launched including Meatballs, a Sirloin Steak and Beef Burgers. All wagyu will have a higher marbling score than any other supermarket, displayed on pack for customers. Making it more accessible for customers, Waitrose is launching five own-label British wagyu beef products as part of the growing No.1 range. Wagyu is graded on the Beef Marbling Scale, which is recognised globally as the gold standard for wagyu beef - this score determines the quality of the beef. The marbling score is assigned on a scale from 0 to 9, with a higher number providing a more tender, flavourful, and luxurious experience. If you enjoy your beef, definitely one to try. #foodindustry #meatindustry #waitrose

World Vegetarian Day 1st October World Vegetarian Day was founded in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society and was endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978. 1st October is the annual kick-off of Vegetarian Awareness Month. What’s our favourite veggie dish? There are benefits to eating a vegetarian diet: Reduce the risk of major killers such as heart disease, stroke and cancer while cutting exposure to foodborne pathogens. Provide a viable answer to feeding the world’s hungry through more efficient use of grains and other crops. Conserve vital but limited freshwater, fertile topsoil, and other precious resources. Preserve irreplaceable ecosystems such as rainforests and other wildlife habitats. Vegetarian options have improved dramatically over the years so even if you don’t want to switch permanently, there are many options to try. #worldvegetarianday
