ICYMI: Reintroducing Automated Frameload (AFL)! We automated the most physically demanding job in the warehouse: the loading of prepared customer orders onto delivery frames ready for dispatch. AFL enables the efficient and accurate loading of delivery totes without human touch. How? Computer vision examines the tote and the frame, forms an understanding of the dimensions and shape of the tote and enables alignment with the frame, making direction adjustments in real-time to push the tote in. Our first CFC is live in Madrid! This marks a step-change in the quality of service that Spanish customers can expect online. We are already live with In-Store Fulfilment (ISF) in stores across the country and now we'll reach even more Alcampo customers with this state-of-the-art CFC - the first of its kind in Spain! Announced today: an exciting development in our Kroger partnership! 🇺🇸 Ocado's latest technology like On-Grid Robotic Pick (OGRP) and Automated Frameload will roll out across multiple Kroger CFCs, including live and future sites. These innovations will enable Kroger to further drive down their cost to serve from CFCs and enhance an already market-leading customer proposition. It was a privilege to speak at the recent MRA 2024 Retail Conference in Kuala Lumpur. Great to be back in Germany and join colleagues from across the industry at K5 - Future Retail, where I discussed with Sven Rittau about the key innovation levers that are needed to make e-grocery sucessfull . Ocado Group is partnered with 13 leading grocers worldwide. They cover the most mature markets for ecommerce, and this is what we learned: Convenience & reliability: You’ve got to meet customers on their terms, not yours. The goal is to generate positive, sustainable economics without forcing customers to compromise on the quality of service they want. This means getting orders when customers want (flexible lead times), how they want (no subs, on-time). Widest range: The wider the range, the more loyal the customer  the bigger the basket. While different countries (particularly in Europe) see quite a lot of variance in the typical supermarket range offline, the global learning for online is clear. Competitive on price: Online has to be a mass market offering in grocery not a niche premium. This means pricing competitively with a store business, and keeping delivery charges low. If there is one big lesson to learn from the rise and fall of q-commerce, it’s that offering a tiny range at a big premium, with varying levels of reliability is not a recipe for success!
