Our latest research, in collaboration with mallowstreet highlights how the impetus for impact falls on asset managers. LGPS investors have high expectations for impact reporting with 70% seeking information on assets under management tied to impact goals. Larger schemes, in particular, are focused on understanding the regional impact of their investments, likely reflecting a desire to create – and see – a real impact on local communities. About us
Octopus Investments, part of the Octopus Group, is an investment company investing in the people, ideas and industries that will change the world. We manage investments for retail and institutional investors, investing the £13.4* billion they have entrusted to us into the areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact. More than 85% of the money we manage is invested in line with one or more of our three investment themes: empowering people, revitalising healthcare and building a sustainable planet. Our retail investors and the financial advisers that support them, have many different goals, from supporting their families to lead better lives and effectively passing down wealth to protecting their money and directing it to places that need it. We provide a range of products that help them to achieve these aims, including Venture Capital Trusts, Enterprise Investment Schemes, Business Relief-qualifying investments and listed UK small and medium-sized company funds. We support our institutional investors to meet their investment mandates on behalf of their end investors, across five specialist asset classes: renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, real estate, healthcare and venture capital. Octopus Real Estate and Octopus Ventures are part of Octopus Investments. * Octopus as at 31 June 2024 Funds Under Management data includes undrawn commitments, funds under advisory mandates and funds monitored. “Good care homes don’t have residents in them that just continue to exist, good care homes allow people to continue to live and to live well.” The UK care sector faces a significant challenge due to a shortage of quality care homes and an increasing ageing population. To help address this, we’re investing in care homes that are fit for the future. Templeton Place, one of our latest developments, is just one example of how institutional capital can help transform our care infrastructure. We have provided a loan to Wavensmere Homes to bring about the redevelopment of the historic Friar Gates Goods Yard in Derby. The nationally significant mixed-use project will reanimate two landmark Grade II listed buildings into more than 110,000 sq ft of commercial space, alongside 276 new build homes. This is our second project with Wavensmere, and we are thrilled to be working again with a team renowned for delivering high-quality, sustainable homes to local communities while meticulously restoring heritage assets -values that closely align with our own. We can’t wait to see this development take shape and have a positive impact on the city of Derby. Last Wednesday, we hosted a Natural Capital thought leadership dinner with the Rt Hon. The Lord Mayor, Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli to discuss how to elevate natural capital as an asset class. Alex Godfrey, our Investment Director, said "It was great to discuss how investing in nature-positive land use is crucial for tackling the climate crisis and there is a clear need for brave leadership in this sector." It was a fantastic evening filled with support from key industry players, and we’re excited to drive our strategy forward. Today we published our latest Dividend Barometer from the Quoted Companies team. Much of the UK equity income conversation tends to focus on a narrow set of large companies, which can overlook businesses outside the FTSE 100 with strong dividend cover and distributions. Conversely, our report looks at these lesser-known dividend credentials of small and mid-cap stocks. Take a look at the full report here: https://bit.ly/3Y6ha3e

The new labour government have shown their support for UK start-ups and entrepreneurs by announcing an extension of the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and the Venture Capital Trust (VCT) Scheme to April 2035. The extension will continue to encourage investment into early-stage businesses by offering investors tax reliefs, helping to promote innovation and support the economy. #VentureCapitalTrusts #VCT #UKInvestment VCT and EIS investments are high risk.
