The ‘HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY OMNI-WORKING’ SERIES 🎂 🎂 🎂 🎂 🎂 ❓ How well is your organisation’s approach to hybrid working and workforce flexibility going? ❓ How do you know? I ask these two questions a lot in my conversations with leaders. The other two questions I ask are: ❓ How well placed do you feel to respond to the mega trends that are shaping the landscape of work and your people related business decisions? ❓ Who heads up this work? Today it’s a year since Omni-Working was published! 🎉 🎉 🎉 A lot has changed in the last year, and a lot feels stuck. Now almost 70% of organisations offer some kind of location flexibility, some are hugely forward thinking, and others feel stuck in the past with pre-pandemic ways of working holding back the organisation and its' people. This isn’t a straightforward debate between returning to the office for more days verses working from home for more days. The situation is more systemic, nuanced and complex than that. Where people work is only part of the solution. Having a sense of autonomy and choice about where (location) and when (schedule) we work drives up engagement. How we work is critical, as this is how we can enable people to work effectively in all ways, from all places. We need to consider Purpose, People, Place and Process. We know there isn’t one perfect answer as every business is different and may have a mix of multiple types of flexibility within different teams and locations. One thing that hasn’t changed in the last twelve months is my fascination and passion for this topic. I’ve not got all the answers, but I love working alongside leaders to share what I know and offer advice and guidance as they navigate through this evolving landscape in their organisation. I’m loving being part of a global community who research, explore, share and learn together – much of it through this platform. Two communities, both led by inspirational women, are providing me with a sense of belonging and growth. Denise Brouder through The Future of Work Alliance, and Julia Hobsbawm through the network consultancy Workathon. I can’t wait to see what emerges and evolves with the amazing group of people they have both brought together. Here’s a few memories of workshops, conversations, and webinars from the first year of Omni-Working, and a look at what’s ahead.
