Our Life Friendly Leadership programme begins on Tuesday 5th November, aimed at HR, SBM, school and Trust leaders, and anyone else working at similar levels of regional leadership (union leaders, TSH / AB leaders). It's an important one for me because it's the egg of the chicken and egg conundrum. Or maybe it's the chicken? The whole point of the metaphor is that it takes two to tango to make a chick, right? Our programmes support hundreds of new parents every year. We empower them with coaching, we provide them with baby-friendly networks full of role models, we inform them of their legal entitlements. ... and then we send them back into workplaces that don't even know that they're not supporting them very well and so... they leave. And the problem is: now that they're super empowered and have a squad of cheerleaders and know where to get legal support, they leave quicker. "Stuff this," they think, "Ain't nobody treating *me* like that." and they find another school that treats them better, or a whole new career. So many of our school and system leader colleagues applaud what we do. They find the support The MTPT Project provides parent-teachers admirable and much-needed. But some still don't know how to approach a conversation about breastfeeding or expressing at work, or know how woeful paternity leave is (and that this doesn't just impact paters, but maters and so-called "secondary" adopters, also.) When we bring new parents to the cliff edge ahead of their return to work, they are empowered with wings and ready to fly. Make sure they don't fly away from your organisation by ensuring you are up in the clouds with them, fully informed of your duties as employers and leaders.
