Last week, we hosted an incredible event at the University of Manchester, Unpacking the Power of Community Solutions, where we welcomed of our inspiring community partners to share their vision for placing community voices at the heart of solutions and priorities, and the powerful role that unrestricted funding plays in building a community-centred future. A huge thank you to Bernard, Bridget and Sally from Community Savers CLASS, Pauline and Jack from Muungano wa Wanavijiji and Shack Dwellers International Kenya (SDI Kenya) and Florence olwenge from Raising Futures Kenya for sharing their insights on what true, community-led impact can look like. This was nothing short of inspiring and the event wrapped up with a lively discussion among passionate Global Citizens who share the drive for transformative change. Here’s to supporting and empowering communities to lead the way! Head over to the Community Space to meet some of the faces behind these incredible organisations and hear what they have to say about community-led work, the power of community, and our partnership with them!
About us
At One World Together we strive for a future where global citizens and communities can connect and thrive, fostering engagement, knowledge-sharing and solidarity. Current funding systems don’t trust local organisations to meet their own challenges. One World Together’s purpose is to provide an alternative to existing models of funding, to meaningfully connect and empower communities across the globe and build global solidarity. In pioneering this alternative approach One World Together connects young people directly to communities across the globe. Through its digital knowledge-sharing platform and model of long-term unrestricted funding, One World Together is building global solidarity to strengthen community impacts and make positive change.

On this #TogetherTuesday, our co-founder Chibwe Henry wanted to say hello! Chibwe shares her journey as a pracademic, leading Comic Relief’s $60 million Shifting the Power program and working with local organisations around the world. Her passion for unrestricted funding was born from witnessing how restrictive funding can limit community impact. This drive led her, alongside Nicola Banks, to co-found One World Together, where we’re championing a bold shift in global funding—putting real power in the hands of communities. Join our uplifting, ever-growing community as we catalyse change that starts from within! https://lnkd.in/exAU4tyK #OneWorldTogether #UnrestrictedFunding #ShiftingThePower

Our Chief Steward Nicola Banks is also a Professor at Global Development Institute where her research explores youth livelihoods and the role of NGOs in development. A lot of inspiration that fed into what we do here at One World Together! Her recent research through the African Cities Research Consortium highlights the devastating impact that tough urban livelihoods places is having on young lives in towns and cities. In Nairobi, our partners Raising Futures Kenya use our Solidarity Funds to deepen the mental health support that they give their pupils. They work with young men and women living in difficult environments and they know that vocational training alone is never enough to support young people in ways that let them build those new skills into long-term success. Our amazing Chief Steward Chibwe Masabo Henry is so dedicated to shifting power to communities around the world and also leads Comic Relief's Shifting the Power programme in Ghana, Malawi and Zambia. Our Chief Stewards enjoyed getting together over shifting the power at this brilliant event last night!

What a pleasure to join the mid-point celebration for Comic Relief's Shifting the Power programme in London last night. It was a wonderful evening of poetry, drumming and dance, and strong inspiration from its brilliant Anchor Partners TILITONSE FOUNDATION STAR-Ghana Foundation West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) Zambian Governance Foundation about the ways in which localised and unrestricted funding is making a difference to them and the NGO networks they support through the programme. There is often a lot of talk in this area, with less demonstrable action. But demonstrable examples are so important to move that conversation forwards (and faster) and to encourage other trail-blazing organisations to make the necessary changes. And - happy days - I got a real-life hug from my fav Chibwe Masabo Henry, who is leading and pushing and shaping in the arena of locally-led development in so many ways. She is such an inspiration and I could not be prouder to stand alongside her in stewarding our own efforts One World Together to get more and better funding to amazing community organisations.
