Day 2 at LegalGeek - as summarised by Ella Ovenden, one of our legal engineers here at Orbital Witness. Follow for more #legaltech insight ⬇️
Had a brilliant time at LegalGeek 🤓 an amazing place to learn from really interesting people (including a chance to hear from Mel B herself which was a personal highlight)! 🌶 Day 2 was packed with thought provoking discussions on AI’s growing role in the legal industry... 🚀 Many speakers acknowledged that AI is very much a part of the here and now in legal and no longer a future concept that we are cautiously anticipating. Despite this, clients don't want to lose their trusted lawyers to AI advisers or robots... 🤖 The continued personal interactions and supervision of work by experienced legal professionals is critical to ensuring that AI enhances the relationship of lawyer and client (without replacing that all-important human connection) 🤝 📈 There has been an undeniable growth of legal AI offerings in all shapes and sizes over the past year but there remains a significant trust gap in its adoption. An eye-opening statistic that was shared yesterday was that whilst 94% of business leaders believe GenAI is essential for their success, only 21% of legal professionals trust it completely... There's no doubt that AI may be able to outpace and outperform humans in certain areas, however lawyers remain crucial to verify & contextualise AI outputs, ensuring that critical client-specific or fact-based nuances continue to be present in their final outputs to clients 👩⚖️ The power of collaboration was also heavily showcased 💪 Law firms' clients are increasingly curious about how firms are using AI and many want to be part of the process, meaning that transparency is essential... Demonstrating the benefits of AI to clients rather than shying away from its use is a key step in driving the adoption of AI tools both within and outside of law ⚖️ A final key takeaway was a warning against building flashy, ineffective solutions without focusing on the initial problem. AI solutions must solve real problems if they are to be adopted and not left on the sidelines. To achieve this, AI tools should seamlessly integrate into lawyers' existing workflows with intuitive interfaces that address specific pain points 🩹 💡 We were inspired & learnt a lot from the conference at Orbital Witness... it would be great to hear from anyone else on the above points or any other key takeaways from LegalGeek 2024! #LegalGeek #LegalTech
