From Startup to Scale-up: 3 Surprising Lessons We've Learned Here at Ormeau Business Park, we've had a front-row seat to the journey of countless startups as they've grown into successful businesses. Along the way, we've picked up some insights that might surprise you. Here are three key lessons we've observed: 1. Feedback is the real MVP The most successful companies we've seen don't just tolerate feedback - they actively seek it out. It's not about having thick skin; it's about recognizing that each piece of constructive criticism is a golden opportunity for improvement. These businesses use feedback to refine their products, services, and strategies, turning potential setbacks into stepping stones for growth. 2. Culture isn't just a buzzword - it's your secret weapon Here's a truth that might raise some eyebrows: your company culture is just as crucial as your business plan. The thriving scale-ups we've watched didn't wait until they were successful to focus on culture - they prioritized it from day one. They understood that a strong, positive culture attracts top talent and fosters innovation. In the long run, this focus became their ace in the hole for navigating the challenges of rapid growth. 3. Local roots can fuel global ambitions Surprisingly, the companies that have gone on to make the biggest splash globally often started by embedding themselves deeply in the Belfast business community. They became local champions, building strong networks and refining their offerings based on hometown feedback. This solid foundation gave them the launch pad they needed to catapult onto the world stage. Sometimes, it seems, you need to be a big fish in a small pond before you can swim in the ocean. At Ormeau Business Park, we're continually amazed by the innovative ways businesses navigate the journey from startup to scale-up. These insights remind us of that success often comes from unexpected directions, and that the most valuable lessons are learned through experience. We're curious: What's the most surprising lesson your business journey has taught you? Share your experience in the comments - your insight could be just what another entrepreneur needs to hear! We at Ormeau Business Park were delighted to participate in the culmination of Queen's University Belfast's Futurum Programme on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024. This innovative 10-week entrepreneurial skills programme, delivered by The Graduate School at Queen's, offered participants a unique opportunity to develop and practice key entrepreneurial competencies. Our manager, Patricia McNeill, had the privilege of serving as a guest panel member, providing valuable feedback to the participants as they showcased their newly honed pitching skills. As the programme drew to a close, participants had the opportunity to put their skills into practice by pitching ideas they believed could create commercial, social, or environmental value. The focus was on the pitching process itself rather than the specifics of the ideas, providing a supportive environment for participants to build confidence in their presentation skills. We were thoroughly impressed by the enthusiasm and growth demonstrated by all participants. Special congratulations go to Thanussha Ulaghanathan, who was named the Overall Winner, and Varshitha Manjunath, who secured the Runner-Up position. Their performances stood out in what was undoubtedly a field of talented and motivated individuals. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Chris Shannon and Kat Maguire for their outstanding work in organizing this programme and for inviting our manager, Patricia, to participate in the final event. The day was a resounding success, showcasing the development of these aspiring entrepreneurs over the course of the programme. Ormeau Business Park remains committed to fostering innovation and supporting young talent in Northern Ireland. We believe that programmes like Futurum play a crucial role in developing the skills and confidence needed for success in today's dynamic business landscape. To all the participants: your dedication and progress throughout this programme were truly remarkable. We're excited to see how you'll apply these newly honed skills in your future endeavours, whether in creating your own ventures or bringing an entrepreneurial spirit to established organizations. We look forward to continuing our support for initiatives that nurture the next generation of business leaders and innovators in our community.

Proud to announce Ormeau Business Park's sponsorship of Open Botanic 2024, an innovative community-driven festival reimagining Belfast's Botanic Avenue as a pedestrian-friendly space! Yesterday, our marketing intern Mariya James represented us at the launch event outside Tzatziki restaurant. It was a great opportunity to connect with other local businesses and community members who share our vision for a more vibrant, sustainable Belfast. Open Botanic isn't just a festival - it's a catalyst for conversations about urban space usage and collaborative regeneration. We're excited to be part of this initiative that aligns so well with our commitment to fostering business growth and community development.
