Cyrus remembers his mother's mental illness 💙 We're thankful for people like Cyrus, who are standing up and sharing their story with us. Raised in Alnwick, Cyrus Pattinson was excluded from school for fighting before discovering boxing as a teenager. He has spoken candidly on our #podcast about growing up whilst his mother was suffering from Schizoaffective disorder. "The first time I experienced mental illness as a child, I remember sleeping in the same bed as my mam and being woken up in the middle of the night by screaming." Our mission is to support all children and #youngpeople who have a parent with a mental illness. Poor mental health and serious mental illness affects thousands of children across the UK, and can leave permanent scars. However, our research shows that relatively small interventions can make a huge difference. If you're behind us, like & #follow, so that we can continue to raise awareness, and offer a lifeline to young people and their families. We're proud to be signatories to the Roadmap for the Healthiest Generation of Children Ever, published today 📝 We're clear that there is an opportunity for the government to take impactful, low-cost steps to shift the dial on child health. "Childhood must be at the heart of any serious attempts to take a preventative approach to ill-health and reduce health inequalities between groups and regions. The evidence is crystal clear that health inequalities start in the earliest years and widen over the course of childhood and across the life course....In addition to regulating products that harm children’s health, there is also a need for programmes to support children and families to live healthier lives." As Lord Darzi's report states - Childhood is precious because it is brief 🎗 It's vitally important that, as a nation, we support #children from their earliest years. Follow @ourtimecharity and join our mission to support children and young people. Read the report: https://lnkd.in/e9u8Yh8p National Children's Bureau #ourtimecharity #healthinequalities

How can creative projects help children and young people who have a parent with a mental illness? 🖌 Our family workshops help to bring parents and their children together with others, in a safe environment. In 2023, our workshop in Plymouth decided to make creativity a big part of their year. As Andrew, an educator at Plymouth Learning Partnership says: "Some powerful creative work has emerged from the project. The honest and bravery of individuals has shone through." Thank you to all of the young people and parents who have shared their projects with us 👏 💙 Read Andrew's blog via our website 🔗 https://lnkd.in/enbbF98w #ourtimecharity #mentalhealth #creativity

Alongside 63 other organisations, we're happy to be signatories to this important piece of work by National Voices ahead of the Autumn #Budget, asking the Treasury to support the 3rd sector and the children & #youngpeople we advocate on behalf of ✍ This includes calling for the introduction of measures to reduce the terrible toll that the cost of living crisis continues to have on the most deprived areas of our country and the most marginalised and minoritized groups. Our letter suggests a series of measures to make a meaningful difference, ensuring people stay healthy during this economic squeeze. We know that living in poverty has a devastating impact on family mental health — research recently published by Centre for Mental Health and Save the Children UK found that children are being failed by the state's inability to combat the dual crises of poverty and #mentalhealth. Today we have published a joint letter to the Chancellor, Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, sent last week ahead of the Autumn Budget. 👉https://lnkd.in/eV-5MJsT Our letter, signed by 64 health and care organisations, highlights the importance of working with people and communities, and the VCSE organisations representing them to democratise decision making in health and care. It puts forward three main asks for the Treasury: 🪙 Maintain VCSE Health and Wellbeing Alliance investment Maintaining investment in #HWAlliance will help continue a strong, strategic relationship with the VCSE. Through their networks, Alliance members serve as a key link with thousands of people experiencing health inequalities, communities and VCSE organisations across England. From April 2021 to March 2024, 1,415 VCSE organisations, faith groups and local community groups co-led or supported #HWAlliance projects You can see the wealth of research and insight projects undertaken by Alliance members via the resource library 👉https://lnkd.in/edU8TbzV 🩺 Introduce measures to reduce the health impact of the rising cost of living The cost of living crisis continues to take a terrible toll on people living in the most deprived areas of the country or from the most marginalised and minoritised groups. Our letter suggests a series of measures to help people stay healthy during this economic squeeze and to support the wider preventative agenda, including free prescriptions & access to an NHS dentist for all. 👛 Review legacy donation mechanisms VCSE organisations are increasingly reliant on legacy donations to do their vital work. We are hearing concerns from members that any planned changes to inheritance tax may impact on this key income stream, and urge the Government to consider this when reviewing approach to taxation. 💬 It's the start of #OCDAwarenessWeek The experiences of young people growing up in a household with mental illness can include GPs, social workers and mental health workers talking over them, 'taking over' when a parent is in crisis, and failing to understand that children need to know what's happening too. This lack of voice or recognition can add to the stress and sense of everything being ‘out of control’. We know that this fear and lack of control can have a long-lasting effect on young people, including going on to experience OCD. We're campaigning for better support for children & young people growing up with a parent who has mental illness 💜 You can get involved by fundraising or registering as a Corporate Partner. Fore more information about different types of mental health problems, including OCD, we recommend visiting Mind: https://lnkd.in/dx7rtt4s

Today we recognize World Mental Health Day and this year’s theme – “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace.” At Cleary, well-being is one tool among many to empower us all to reach personal and professional goals with energy, focus and resilience. As such, we provide a variety of mental health resources, support and training for all our colleagues. We also appreciate the meaningful intersection of pro bono and well-being. Along with World Mental Health Day, we recognize the National Celebration of Pro Bono (U.S.) in October as well as Pro Bono Week (UK) in early November. Our pro bono practice is at the heart of what makes Cleary such a special, impactful place to work. The legal services we provide to our clients – such as the Child Mind Institute (U.S.) and Our Time (UK) – enable them to directly address key mental health needs in our communities. And participating in these efforts is one important way our Cleary colleagues connect through shared purpose.
