About us
Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire (OxSAR) is a volunteer unit available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our main role is to assist the Police service with vulnerable missing person searches across Oxfordshire and other search teams in the surrounding counties. OxSAR is also available to support the emergency services, county council and other agencies in the event of a major incident. OxSAR receives no government funding and we are only able to continue our life saving work through the kind support of the public. In addition to serving vulnerable missing people in Oxfordshire, OxSAR are frequently requested to assist other ALSAR teams all over the country.

Mental Health training and awareness was the topic of our training last night and how important it is for us to be able to recognise the signs of poor mental health in both ourselves, our team as well as the missing people we search for. If you're experiencing difficulties then charities such as Mind may be able to help. They can be contacted at www.mind.org.uk Thank you to Oxford Brookes University for hosting our training session too.

Training this week was all about showing the team exactly what our amazing 'Air Scenting' and 'Ground Scenting' Search and Rescue dogs are capable of (as well as their handlers) and demonstrating to us what support they require from us when they're 'working' and looking for a missing person. Howbery Business Park is a new training venue for us and we're really grateful to them for allowing us to use their wonderful facilities. Our drone team were also on hand to take footage of our training and venue.

Another busy weekend for our team as we headed off to events in Banbury and Queenford Lakes! Armed Forces Day was celebrated in Banbury with a Military Parade that lots of the town came out to watch. We loved showing off some of our kit to the people of Banbury and also getting to meet members of the Town Council who recently awarded us a grant for our K9 First Aid Kits. Thank you for a great day out!

It was a perfect summers evening for boat and water safety training this week at Dorchester Sailing Club as our members practised how to safely rescue people in water as well as familiarising the whole team on how our boats work and what equipment we carry for our water based searches. Training doesn't get much better than this!
