At last night's British Council for Offices National Awards, two AHMM projects were crowned winners! 1 New Park Square won the Commercial Work Place category and Tower Hamlets Town Hall was named winner of the Refurbished/Recycled category. Designed for Parabola, 1 New Park Square is AHMM's first Cat A office in Scotland, and the first completed building of the Edinburgh Park development. AEG Edinburgh Park Arena plans have been approved by Councillors. The 8,500-capacity venue is now set to open in 2027. Edinburgh will soon have its first ever large indoor concert arena, after plans were approved today to build a new 8,500 capacity venue at Edinburgh Park. AEG Europe which owns London’s The O2 Arena, Berlin’s Uber Arena, and 325 venues across the world, are working with award-winning developers and site owners Parabola on the new arena, which will span 18,500 square metres and attract an estimated 700,000 visitors per year. The arena hopes to host 150 shows a year including concerts, comedy shows, boxing and festival shows and will be located on the doorstep of the Edinburgh Park Train and Tram Stations. Parabola's MD, Tony Hordon said: "A wonderful result and reflection of all the hard work undertaken following the first conversation between Parabola and AEG some 3 years ago. More importantly, this news represents a significant milestone in the progress and movement at Edinburgh Park, which continues to go from strength to strength. A new and exciting chapter for both Edinburgh Park and the City of Edinburgh. Alistair Wood executive vice president of AEG Europe said: “We had looked at alternative sites at Leith, Meadowbank and the airport but this site is perfect. “We love the history and heritage of Edinburgh but obviously the city is lacking an arena just now. We think this fills in a massive gap in the market. “This proposal will create 250 jobs at the arena and a further 700 jobs in the wider area. We are hoping it will be the world’s most efficient arena when it is built.” Cllr Dalgleish said: “This is quite a small site, but it also has a lot of opportunity. I had concerns about traffic and the amount of people coming to the venue, but after today I don’t have these concerns anymore. “This is a great investment and it aligns with our policies. I think this application is brilliant and fills a gap we are missing. So I will be supporting this.” Cllr Mowatt said: “This is something Edinburgh has really been wanting for a long time. It’s a fantastic location you have chosen. If you’ve ever wondered how tapestries are made and are curios to watch these master-weavers work, please stop by! We are located at 1 Airborne Place (Off Lochside Avenue), Edinburgh EH12 9GR and can easily be accessed by tram (Edinburgh Park CENTRAL), train (Edinburgh Park Station) or by car (Paid Multi-Storey Car Park). The weavers will be working under the Parabola tapestry commission “Minerva Protects Pax from Mars” which was created by Dovecot Studios and which hangs in the reception of 1 New Park Square.
