Passivhaus is the leading international low energy, design standard. Over 37,000 buildings have been designed, built and tested to this standard worldwide. The Trust aims to promote the principles of Passivhaus as a highly effective way of reducing energy use and carbon emissions from buildings in the UK, as well as providing high standards of comfort and building health.

Delighted to be speaking to a broader audience about the benefits of the Passivhaus and AECB standards with the Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK). When teaching the Passivhaus courses with Coaction Training CIC, so many people say to me 'I didn't realise that gaps in insulation had such an effect on performance', or 'I didn't realise how important airtightness is to good building and occupant health'. It's in our building regulations don't you know! Don't let the word Passivhaus put you off, it's just about building right. We can learn so much from the principle of Passivhaus that we can apply across the board to our building design and construction. #buildingphysics #reducingtheperformancegap #passivhaus

I’m incredibly proud of the progress Willmott Dixon is making in the world of sustainable development, as we recently celebrated the completion of Eclipse Leisure Centre. We worked with Spelthorne Borough Council and a dedicated project team to deliver the scheme, which is the first full-scale ‘wet and dry’ and the largest leisure centre in the UK to be fully built to the ultra-low energy Passivhaus standard – a significant milestone for energy-efficient public buildings. The Council expects the new centre to use between 60 and 70% less energy than a typical leisure centre. With 59% of the market share for non-domestic certified Passivhaus projects over 1000m2, we’re leading the charge for ultra-low energy buildings, and I’m looking forward to seeing the impact this development makes once it is open to the local community in Staines later this month. There are just two weeks left to have your say on the Scottish #Passivhaus equivalent standard. The worry is that it may fall short of the intended aspirations unless a few amends are made to the proposed legislation (such as using accurate tools, setting absolute energy targets and integrating quality assurance processes), so we need to voice this concern.
