To mark Remembrance Day, we’d like to acknowledge the brilliant cabbies who volunteered their time on Remembrance Sunday to take veterans to and from Whitehall at no cost. Taxi drivers provide support for veterans year-round across the UK, working with charities such as: Fares4Free – who offer free fares for members of the Armed Forces Community to help them access essential appointments and reintegrate back into their local communities. Taxi Charity for Military Veterans – who arrange social events and commemorative trips for veterans from all conflicts to help them combat loneliness and isolation. Today, we pause to honour the bravery, sacrifice, and resilience of those who served and those who continue to serve in our armed forces. Thank you to all the selfless taxi drivers who support our veterans every year.

More councils across the UK are cracking down on PHVs. West Northamptonshire Council has been working with police to target PHVs illegally plying for hire in the area. Council officials disguised as customers caught 14 drivers accepting passengers without a booking, and their taxi badges will now be reviewed. We’ve seen similar operations in other councils like Shropshire, where one private hire driver received eight penalty points on his driving licence and was fined £294. Is your council carrying out similar operations? What should the penalty be for illegally plying for hire?

How will driverless cabs impact the taxi industry’s future? Taxi drivers do far more than get people from one place to another. Replacing them with robotaxis could see vital parts of the service lost. Read more: https://loom.ly/HWdv4b8
