Promoting Children in Plymouth is ready for the formal launch of the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library #Plymouth A chance for #PCiP, The Dollywood Foundation, Early Years South West Stronger Practice Hub and the Family Hubs to share our hopes and vision. All children have the right to be able to read securely and access to books at home from an early age. Making better lives for children in Plymouth
About us
Promoting Children in Plymouth (PCiP), is all about eradicating poverty in the city. A massive ask, especially when you consider there are currently 12124 children living in poverty in Plymouth. The Plymouth Fairness Commission report described a “Tale of Two Cities” whereby a child’s life outcomes were wholly predictable depending on the ward they were born into. Today, some wards continue to experience children in poverty levels in excess of 35%. This cannot be right. PCiP was born out of a want and need for collaboration and encouragement of our private sector to work more closely with the public sector and charitable organisations – sharing responsibility to rid child poverty from our city.

We have supported Promoting Children in Plymouth (PCiP) to give back to the community and show support for all the hard work they do for Plymouth. "The PCiP and MSubs Ltd partnership has provided over 2000 books, gifted directly into the hands of children, supporting our mission that all children should have access to books at home. Previous funding supported the expansion of the Widening Horizons programme and this third year of support focuses on the sustainability of the expansion. We thank the MSubs Ltd Team for their determined support of PCiP and the vision of opportunities for all children.” - Kerry Bidewell, PCiP Development Manager. We are grateful for PCiP in making a difference in the lives of children in Plymouth, and look forward to continuing our support for such a worthy cause. Whether a career at sea beckons, or for those more comfortable on dry land, there are a huge number of opportunities for a varied, rewarding and exciting career in the maritime industry. As a, still, traditionally male dominated industry it is the responsibility of us all to raise awareness and highlight these opportunities available to women to join, progress and lead within the maritime sector. The brilliant University of Plymouth, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Ambassadors have volunteered and supported Promoting Children in Plymouth for 3 years. Without their unwavering support #PCIP would not have been able to sustain and continually expand the Y1 Story Telling and Book Gifting project. The lovelies at St Peters had a surprise visit this week from Amira, who not only read their story of Stop Dropping Litter The3Engineers and shared a little about herself but stayed to get busy with the following activity. We are very proud to have created a project where the community share their love of reading, introduces the children to their world of work and study, a project that has seen 14,000 books gifted into the hands of children, over the last 3 years. Promoting Children in Plymouth, thanks MSubs Ltd and Brett Phaneuf for supporting this project from the very beginning. Nationally 1 in 4 children do not not have access to books at home. Children without access to books at home start school already 11 months behind their more advantaged peers. #Education #Inspiration #Ambition #Collaboration #PCIP Marc Wheeler FCCT FRSA FSET CMgr FCMI Paddy Kumar
