I just got back from Economist Impact Sustainability Week and it was amazing! A major focus of the conference was on sustainable procurement and supply chains, and I particularly enjoyed a Scope 3 decarbonisation panel discussion with Santander, Unilever and Volvo Group. I gained valuable insights into how large businesses are tackling supplier engagement and decarbonisation—an interesting perspective coming from a Tier 2 supplier standpoint. The discussion addressed the challenges of engaging SMEs and less mature suppliers, as well as the frequent misalignment businesses face internally between sustainability goals and procurement. Representing the corporate signage supply chain for several high-profile brands, this provided key takeaways to bring back to my sustainability team on how we can continue promoting an LCA Scope 3 approach to our customers for their retail and brand signage operations. It also reinforced our role as a sustainability “engaged” supplier, fully committed to aligning with our customers' broader sustainability strategies and decarbonisation efforts across the entire value chain. A massive thank you to Stella Constantatos Jarrod Glover Yann Teste Radharaman (Rad) Jha Emma Arnold Oliver Hurrey Matus Samel for a truly insightful discussion! Other standout moments from the conference included: -Hollywood actor Matt Damon highlighting the power of microfinance in tackling water scarcity and the incredible impact of his charity, Water.org, in closing the financing gap for universal access to safe water and sanitation. -Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s powerful message on the urgency of a unified global approach to climate action, stressing the need for political commitment, private sector investment and consumer education; which was a compelling call to action in response to the recent U.S. retreat on climate commitments. So all in all its been a really great insightful past couple of days! If you’ve made it this far reading this rather long post—kudos to you!
