On average, three rhinos are killed by poachers every day. It is estimated that fewer than 27,000 rhinos remain in the wild, where there used to be over 500,000 at the beginning of the 20th century. Daily across Southern Africa, wildlife rangers risk their lives to protect some of the last remaining rhinos. That is why at Pelorus Foundation we are supporting rangers to keep protecting rhinos and other endangered species. We need your help to continue helping rangers to stay safe while protecting wildlife and wild places. So far we have raised £2,192 and have £3,921 matched funds remaining. Donate today and until 22 September to take part in our matched fundraising campaign where you can double your impact to support rangers. Manta rays are facing a fight for survival, and the odds are stacked against them. These beautiful animals are frequently caught as bycatch in industrial fishing operations, suffering injury or death in nets and on longlines meant for other species. Even worse, their slow reproduction rate - just one pup every 2 to 5 years - means they can’t bounce back from these losses quickly. Classified as "Vulnerable" by the IUCN, manta rays are struggling against a tide of threats. As migratory animals, they travel through regions with varying levels of protection, making them easy targets for illegal fishing and boat strikes. And it's not just fishing that’s killing them - manta rays are filter feeders, scooping up plankton but also ingesting dangerous amounts of microplastics that build up in their bodies over time. Today on World Manta Day, we reflect on how these incredible creatures need protection now, before it's too late. That is why at Pelorus Foundation we collaborate with local, community - based organisations like our partner Oceans Alive Kenya, who are at the forefront of ocean conservation in areas where Manta Rays migrate. When you're responsible for safeguarding 20,000 sq km of wilderness, leadership and communication are everything. Field rangers on the conservation frontlines face constant danger, often with insufficient gear and training. We're focused on training more rangers with vital skills like communication, leadership, close air support, tracking, first aid, and criminal procedures. This boosts their confidence, cohesion in cross-boundary and nighttime operations, and ensures accurate reporting and effective follow-up actions. Pelorus Foundation is supporting rangers across Africa and we need your help to continue helping rangers to stay safe while protecting wildlife and wild places. Please help reach our target of £10,000. Donate today and until 22 September to take part in our matched fundraising campaign where you can double your impact to support rangers. Pelorus Foundation is fundraising for rangers, Wildlife Heroes with one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. Field rangers are on the conservation frontlines, constantly facing danger, yet they’re often under-equipped, undertrained, and undersupported. We're working closely with partners to protect wildlife and rangers by funding training in communication, leadership, and mental health. We're also supporting K9 units and providing advanced tech to boost their effectiveness, ensuring rangers are safer, stronger, and better equipped to defend at-risk wildlife. At Pelorus Foundation we understand the crucial roles communication and mental health can play in the work of people protecting nature. On the frontline of conservation, field rangers face an abundance of dangerous situations, yet often are under-equipped and have inadequate training and support. Ranger work is often emotionally taxing. These men and women work in remote field locations for long stretches of time, separated from home and family for weeks or even months. Protecting some of the world’s most endangered and highly trafficked animals is dangerous work too, often coming face to face with armed poachers. According to the International Ranger Federation, 149 rangers died on duty over the last year - nearly a 50% increase over the previous year. Rangers are a critical part of a larger conservation story. We can’t stop poaching, save the world’s most endangered species, or protect its most vital places without the crucial work done by rangers. Pelorus Foundation is supporting rangers across Southern Africa to access better communication training and mental health support, but we need your help to continue helping rangers to stay safe while protecting wildlife and wild places. Please help reach our target of £10,000, donate today and until 22 September to take part in our matched fundraising campaign where you can double your impact to support rangers. Pelorus Foundation supports Rangers and their canine colleagues. Canine units, often referred as K9 units, make for great ranger allies in the fight against wildlife trafficking, with some reports indicating up to a 90% success rate in detecting illicit wildlife products. K9 units in Southern Africa are trained to detect wildlife products like rhino horn, ivory, and pangolin scales with astonishing accuracy, making them invaluable in the fight against poaching. Pelorus Foundation is supporting rangers across Africa and we need your help to continue helping rangers work with tracker dogs to stay safe while protecting wildlife and wild places.
