Shadene Goldson is one of our Scheme Delivery Associates. As part of Black History Month, Shadene shared with our colleagues the stories of several influential Black individuals who have shaped Britain, including historical and contemporary figures. Shadene said, "By examining how Black history intersects with various aspects of British life from politics and the arts to science and education - we can foster a deeper understanding of our collective heritage. In embracing this perspective, we not only honour the legacy of those who came before us but also enrich our understanding of what it means to be British in a multicultural society." "Engaging with Black history throughout the year encourages ongoing dialogue and education, dismantling stereotypes." #BlackHistoryMonth2024 #DiversityandInclusion

We're pleased that one of our infrastructure investments, the Thames Tideway Tunnel, has finished construction, with the first four of 21 sites now in operation. The tunnel was built to expand the sewer capacity in London and protect the River Thames from spills for generations to come. Sustainability was core to this construction project. Initiatives to minimise its environmental impact included using the river to transport construction materials and excavated spoil which reduced the lorry journeys taken. The project also had a focus on delivering social value, aligning its activity with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Thames Tideway Tunnel will be in full operation by 2025. We've had another year of excellent investment performance, as reflected in our Annual Report and Accounts, published today. “This has been another strong year for PPF finances. Our reserves have grown to 13.2 billion, mainly a result of the investment performance,” says Barry Kenneth, our Chief Investment Officer. “We’ve evolved our investment framework, so we now have two portfolios: a matching portfolio and a growth portfolio,” says Barry. “The objective of our growth portfolio is to prudently grow reserves through time. This portfolio performed extremely well in the financial year, especially given the economic backdrop. I’m pleased to report the returns generated on this portfolio, were 7.2 per cent in the financial year.” Read more: https://bit.ly/3YmIGIP #AnnualReportandAccounts #InvestmentPerformance #Pensions

This month, we're celebrating Black History Month with a series of events, and conversations with our colleagues. Vanessa Stubbs, our Project Manager, shared with us what Black history means to her. "I celebrate being Black all year round, however Black History Month allows us to set aside a time for everyone to remember the history of Black people - not only for us in the UK, but all over the world," says Vanessa. "The month of October serves as a reminder of the contributions made towards building up this country by Black and ethnic minority individuals and the legacy that comes with it - the importance of this month is about acknowledging the contributions of individuals." "As part of celebrating my heritage all year round, I am part of a gospel choir. Gospel is a genre that celebrates not just the present, but also the history of Black history. Gospel music roots date back to the 18th and 19th century, when it originated from hymns and spirituals (songs of hope) sung by slaves during that time," says Vanessa. "Now, Black music is seen as a celebration of how far we've come - it’s a true celebration of Black history and a way to reclaim the narrative." #BlackHistoryMonth2024 #DiversityandInclusion
