Our employee-led Diverse Ability Action and Awareness Group (DAAAG) and Working Families’ Alliance recently held an event for our colleagues, 'Supporting a neurodiverse child', as part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week. Sara Protheroe, our Chief Customer Officer and executive sponsor of the DAAAG group, hosted the event where attendees discussed: - How to care for a neurodiverse child. Tips included tapping into volunteer support groups, making sure there is a ‘safe space’ where they can express themselves and taking time for yourself. - What adjustments can be helpful for neurodiverse children, including getting a formal diagnosis and speaking to teachers. - How to support a child when going to a party or event. Tips included arriving early to give them a chance to settle in or opting for ‘relaxed openings’ at museums, galleries and cinemas. #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #DisabilityConfidentLeader #InclusiveEmployer

We recently held an informative online workshop, where we were joined by My Menopause Centre’s Dr Tonye Wokoma and Henpicked. The workshop discussed menopause and inclusivity, and how there is still a lack of understanding of the experience of communities including black and ethnic minorities, people with disabilities and the LGBTQ+ community. Participants learnt more about: - Why it’s so important to understand the individual, lived experience of people going through the menopause - The drivers of health inequalities in different communities - Her top tips for what we can do to change this so that menopause care truly is inclusive We hope that our employees enjoyed the workshop. #MenopauseAwareness #EmployeeSupport #DiversityAndInclusion My Menopause Centre Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace

This week in support of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, Kate McMiles, our Strategy and Policy Officer, shares her experience of being neurodiverse. “I’m a co-lead of the Diverse Ability Action and Awareness Group,” says Kate. “In 2022 I was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD.” “As I progressed in my career, my undiagnosed ADHD was causing me to feel burned out, overwhelmed, and I was constantly doubting myself. “The turning point came when my brother said he’d been diagnosed with ADHD. After conversations with friends, their support encouraged me to get a diagnosis,” says Kate. “Although nothing really has changed for me since my diagnosis, it was validating to know why my brain works differently and remind myself to be kinder to myself. “Plus, I get to work for the PPF, which has been very supportive of all things diversity, and I have a great immediate team that encourages me. “If you have ADHD, I encourage you to be open about it if you’re comfortable. And if you think you have ADHD, it can be validating to be diagnosed and give you the ability to better identify coping mechanisms.” #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #DisabilityConfidentLeader #InclusiveEmployer

Today we’ve published our Diversity pay gap report, where we provide an update on how we’re progressing against our objectives to improve the gender, ethnicity and disability pay gaps within our organisation. We're pleased to see an improvement in our ethnicity and disability pay gaps and to have exceeded our target of female representation at senior management level this year. However, we're disappointed that our median gender pay gap remained stable and our mean gender pay gap slightly increased. "Fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace is vitally important to us - it creates a better place to work and ultimately makes us better at delivering our service for our members," said Katherine Easter, our Chief Operating Officer. "Monitoring our pay gaps, and setting targets, has helped us make positive progress over time. While there is further to go, it's particularly pleasing that we’ve made more progress in the last year on reducing our ethnicity pay and bonus gaps and further increased female representation in our senior management."
