POD BEHIND THE SCENES 😯 🎥 We have so many interesting things to say, and we're always exploring, planning and prepping how we can say them... but sometimes we have to improvise! So, here's a little insight into the not-always-totally-glamorous setup which goes on behind the scenes. Picture 1: Who needs a tripod? Reema Vadoliya uses a pile of books to film a video talking to camera. Picture 2: Well, she didn't want to distract Reema. Caragh Medlicott hides in a corner while said video takes place. - It can be challenging for organisations to connect with audiences via social media. After all, it's harder to feel real engagement when looking at a logo rather than a face. Oftentimes, when we see companies posting on social media it feels more like a lip service exercise than a real drive to foster audience connection - but we want to do more than just that! So, we're putting it to you. We're entering a period where you can expect to hear from us more regularly as exciting things continue to happen.... but what would you like to see from us on social media? 📊 Data insights 📖 Data storytelling 💪 Inspirational material 🎬 Behind the scenes fun 🤷🏽 All of the above or something totally different! - Please, tell us in the comments below! And don't be afraid to like & share so we can get as much feedback as possible!
People of Data
Business Consulting and Services
Providing Education and Consultancy Services to empower your organisation to maximise impact and inclusion using data
About us
We humanise data. Our goal is to challenge how companies think about data in order to maximise impact and centralise inclusion. We know that data is about so much more than analytics and spreadsheets. Our mission is to help you see the same. We guide mindset shifts and empower companies to see data as the sunlight which nourishes positive change and intentional inclusion. Through our bespoke consultancy service we provide an audit of your current position on business strategy and data maturity, and assess how this intersects with the key pillars of Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. We also create safe spaces for workshops with your team so they can learn the importance of challenging assumptions when interacting with data. These compassion-centred discussions lay the groundwork for an ongoing conversation about how inclusive data practices can be turned into real, everyday action.

No one's life can fit neatly inside a tick box. America Ferrera's TED talk will always be a huge inspiration to us here at POD - we want to find new ways to make collecting personal data empowering rather than reductive & limiting. After all, America is right. Our identity is our superpower, and it deserves to be respected. - Agree? Tell us in the comments below!

“It’s allowing you to interact with something other than just yourself… but sometimes we trust it too much.” Our founder Reema Vadoliya giving some much-needed nuance on the role of AI at work, in our lives, and in the world more broadly. When something as shiny, exciting and fast-developing as AI appears in the world there is a tendency to be reactive. One day it's our saviour, the next it's a villain - but what if the truth is somewhere in the middle? Watch the clip below for more & don't forget to check out the full episode! - How do you feel about AI? Good/bad, excited/scared, engaged/indifferent... we want to hear your view ⬇️💬
Is AI biased? Do we trust it too much? Does it stretch the truth? The Azeem Digital Asks podcast is BACK! More 👇🏾 Reema Vadoliya joins me to kick off S6 as we discuss why data accessibility might just be the solution to addressing bias in AI. We explore how AI is reshaping businesses, highlighting both the upsides and challenges, and also discuss the importance of making data more accessible to combat bias in AI systems, as well as the hurdles companies face in this effort - and more! As always, there's a link in the comments to the full episode, and you can also watch it on Spotify Video or YouTube too. A huge thank you to Reema for being a brilliant guest and helping S6 get off to a GREAT start.

How do you feel when you go to an event? It could be any event - conference, work party, local community event. Does getting a basic form that says "How was this event?" encourage you to share your experience? Any increased excitement levels from introducing a 1-10 scale as the response option? What about when an organisation says "By the way, can we have all demographic data too?" If you're lucky you'll get a "We want to know who our organisation is impacting" as a reason for asking this question. I'll let you know how I feel about it. Frustrated, uninspired and unmotivated to share my experience. We're designing a new approach at People of Data. We are centring people's attention, respecting their intersectional identities and providing organisations the opportunity to ACTUALLY understand their impact! If you're interested to learn more about this send me a message. I'd love to share more information with you about it Let's bring some humanity, respect and purpose into our data collection approaches.

Swiftmania in data! 🎉📊 This weekend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour will have its last UK performances until August, but what impact has the show had in the almost three weeks it’s been here? 🕺Shake it off. At Swift’s Edinburgh show, seismic activity was monitored 6km away from Murrayfield Stadium due to commotion caused by fans cheering and dancing. 🤑 Hey big spender. Spending by Eras Tour ticket-holders is more than 12 times the average cost of a UK night out (£67). 👯 Let’s be friends. Following a fan-driven tradition of making friendship bracelets to exchange at Eras Tour gigs, Hobbycraft have reported that their sales of beads have gone up by 500%. 📈 Record breaking. With nearly 73K fans in attendance each night at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium, this tour is officially the highest-attended gig in Scottish history. 🎉 Who said data can’t be fun!? - Were you at any of the Taylor Swift shows? Did you have fun? Have you seen her live before? DID YOU MAKE FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS? Tell us all below!

“I’d probably be more interested in filling in those forms if the first question was do you like donuts.” Some feedback we had recently when discussing the process of filling out diversity and inclusion forms. We know that diversity is important. After all: 💸 Diverse companies earn 2.5x higher cash flow per employee. 📈 Inclusive teams are over 35% more productive. ✅ Diverse teams make better decisions 87% of the time. Diversity is also the foundation of inclusivity. The trouble is, the methods for gathering the data which makes that possible is often at best boring and at worst dehumanising. Maybe donuts aren’t the answer (though sometimes they are!) but it’s certainly about time we shook things up a bit… - What question would get your attention on a feedback of D&I form? Please discuss in the comments below 🍩 🔽🍩

Data and storytelling often seem like opposing forces. 📈 One typically makes us think of numbers, figures and statistics... ...the other authors, words and narrative 📚 But it’s time to rethink! Data and storytelling naturally enhance one another. Here's why. - What does storytelling mean to you? Tell us in the comments below!

Join Reema this weekend for a workshop discussing how data is used in AI. This will be an interactive workshop alongside Ellie Kulsuma of Creating AI

Is data accessibility the solution to bias in AI? Jen Gates and I did our first talk together with this title last week. Purposefully an open ended question to spark thought. Spoiler - my answer is yes, sort of. More broadly we need to bring accountability and education to the conversation of AI. So let's start with understanding the basics. This episode of Philosophize This is a brilliant and "simple" example comparing the Chinese Room argument to the inner workings of ChatGPT. Whilst philosophy might not seem like a basic way to begin, I find the abstract approach useful to remove noise on how ChatGPT is impacting our current everyday. If you'd prefer a more interactive approach to understanding the impact of AI then come and join Ellie Kulsuma of Creating AI on Saturday 15th June to our workshop - What is AI? It's a small group with lots of chance to ask questions. Would love to see you there to chat and collectively learn about AI. https://lnkd.in/euxC_E5E
