Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay, and this year's theme is Mental Health at Work. 🧠💼 Research by Dr. William Fleming at the Wellbeing Research Centre, University of Oxford, compared interventions across 143 organisations, involving nearly 28,000 employees. And the findings? Many wellbeing initiatives fail to improve mental health, and some even have negative effects. But there’s one clear, positive exception – supporting employees in ✨volunteering✨ At Pilotlight, we’ve seen this firsthand. Volunteering can: 💡 create purpose 🌿 reduce stress 🤝 boost engagement Dr. Fleming reminds us: "Organisations have to change the workplace, not just the worker." Learn more about how volunteering can transform workplace wellbeing in our blog. 👉 https://bit.ly/4gY0TVA

As AI transforms everything, how do we build emotionally intelligent leaders? 🤔 While AI can optimise business operations and streamline processes, it’s our human capacity for empathy, self-awareness, and connection that drives meaningful change. At Pilotlight, we believe in ‘learning by doing good.’ Our approach pairs business experts with charities, giving participants the chance to learn from some of the most emotionally intelligent leaders in the workforce—charity professionals. 🌟 By engaging with real-world challenges, business leaders develop the empathy and adaptability needed to face the complexities of today’s world. Pilotlight reposted this
It has been special today to welcome around 100 people to our Pilotlight Summit in the City of London, focusing on the potential for business to be a force for good. A friendly face is Miriam Emanuel from the social enterprise Cook for Good, who participated in one of our pro bono projects over the Summer. Many thanks to the excellent panel speakers from outstanding businesses and charities and the two chairs, Matt Sparkes and Richard Goff, compère Tom Leavesley-Matthews and to our hosts Dual Group, courtesy of Rebecca Ince I picked up a few comments over the day and these were six that struck me: “We have no shortage of people wanting to give back” “This is a journey, to become more rigorous, more thoughtful, more strategic” “Sitting in the same space is a massive learning opportunity” “He felt it deeply and this was the catalyst for change” “Listening is a leadership skill” “We leave people feeling more optimistic” What a perfect start for our incoming Chair, from January, Alison Forrestal as well as to meet so many partner businesses, charities, Pilotlighters, colleagues and trustees, including Nicola Pye Faiz Siddiqui Katherine Mathieson Sally Bailey #Pilotlight2024
