With 16 monthly in-person groups up and down the UK, our Tea & Chat groups provide a lifeline for our secondary breast cancer community, offering valuable peer-to-peer support and friendship. Final Countdown to Gordon's Charity Challenge⛰️🏆 Gordon MacIvor is gearing up for his solo trek across Iceland, travelling from the North Coast to the South Coast in support of breast cancer charities. He is due to fly out to Reykjavik on August 21st, aiming to complete the challenge in 16 days. Preparation Update: "I have been training daily, on weekends I walk over the hills and mountains in Scotland with my rucksack. I'm also clocking as many miles as possible each day, carrying my rucksack, which currently weighs around 3 stone in weight without water! I average between 10 and 17 mile on my long walks." "I will be carrying only 4 litres of water for the 16 days, so I need to find water enroute" While not claiming to be the fittest, Gordon relies on the mental toughness from his army days to push through the challenges. "I aim to do this in support of all women who suffer with breast cancer and on behalf of my partner Yelena, who has been going through cancer operations for over 6 months now… I strongly believe the most important people in our lives are the women in our lives" All donations are greatly appreciated: https://lnkd.in/ek5TBB-A and all funds raised will go to the Pink Ribbon Foundation. We are incredibly grateful for a £6,000 donation from the Pink Ribbon Foundation to support our free Lymphoedema Service. This grant will fund our sessions for those with breast-cancer related Lymphoedema which is approximately one third of the appointments we deliver. https://lnkd.in/eNiypCkB What is Lymphoedema? Lymphoedema is a build up of fluid in the body tissue in any part of the body and occurs when the lymphatic drainage system is compromised. Cancer or its treatments can cause damage to the channels and lymph nodes that make up this drainage network. Who is this service for? We offer information, support and management for people who have been diagnosed with or who had cancer that: - are at risk of developing lymphoedema due to lymph node(s) removal surgery or radiotherapy to an area of the body - already have been diagnosed with lymphoedema - would like to discuss any aspect of lymphoedema, its risk factors, and self-management techniques. Our lymphoedema support includes: - advice and monitoring to help prevent lymphoedema. - advice on minimising the risk of developing complications associated with the condition. - skin care advice. - manual lymphatic drainage. - self lymphatic drainage. - kinesio taping. - limb measuring. At our recent members' activity day's gala evening we raised £4000 for our designated charity, Pink Ribbon Foundation. The Pink Ribbon Foundation is a grant-making trust with a mission to fund projects and provide financial support to UK charities which relieve the needs of people who are suffering from or who have been affected by breast cancer or who work to advance the understanding of breast cancer, its early detection and treatment. It's a great cause and one that we are delighted to support. One of the Foundation's missions is to encourage women to check their breasts regularly, so here is a handy guide on how to look for any changes. Use it, pass it on.
