Yesterday, members of the Pirtek network were joined by the amazing #ANDYSMANCLUB and inspirational Ollie Ollerton, to kick start our #UnderTheHardHat campaign. Thank you to everyone who took the time to travel to our National Training Centre, but this is just the beginning. One man every 2 hours takes their own life in the UK alone, that is why we are determined to reduce the stigma attached to talking about mental health and by helping to improve the mental wealth of thousands of customers, technicians, employees, colleagues and others that may need a bit of help and support during their dark days, especially of those that work within the hard hat industries. We know that mental health in the hard hat industries needs to be spoken about and the stigma associated with it must be removed. Therefore, we recently conducted research to understand the scale of the issue and our findings showed that: - 94% of respondents felt stressed, anxious, depressed and lonely - Stress is a struggle for three quarters of hard hat professionals - For every hundred workers, fourteen have experienced feelings of self-harm or suicide - Four out of ten respondents have taken time off work for mental health reasons - Absence in the hard hat industries is three times higher than the national average - Over half of respondents find talking about their mental health uncomfortable or awkward - 41% of hard hat workplaces don’t have sufficient mental health support in place - Professional services have been used by 35% of respondents to support their mental health If you would like to learn more about the campaign please visit https://lnkd.in/eaE7vyvd, but more importantly, please take a minute to check in on a friend that has gone quiet, or even the loudest and seemingly happiest, you never know who might need a pick me up today! It’s usually the hat that doesn’t fit and the jacket that does… 🤣 A pleasure to be a part of Pirtek UK and Ireland’s Under the Hard Hat campaign. I’ve posted on here before about a desire to get in front of more hard hat workers and it’s fantastic to now be doing that. A study Pirtek conducted revealed that 94% of Hard Hat workers have suffered from stress, loneliness or anxiety - 94% - we’re used to low uptake and low numbers when it comes to surveys and studies so I’d be inclined to think the number is actually 100%. The guys who are literally laying the foundations of our society are finding their own foundations crumbling far too often and it has to change. Let’s keep shouting loud, normalising talking and spreading the word that #ItsOkayToTalk
