  • What does justice look like? For artist Nicole Farhi, it takes the form of 25 hand-sculpted ceramic busts—each depicting a person who has endured a miscarriage of justice. Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery is proud to present ‘J’Accuse…!’ - a new exhibition that brings to light the faces and stories of individuals who have suffered miscarriages of justice across the world over the past 125 years. From Timothy Evans, whose wrongful execution helped lead to the abolition of capital punishment in Britain, to Andrew Malkinson, who spent 17 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit — these sculptures stand as a testament to resilience and injustice. Join us and experience this exhibition at Pitzhanger. • Today in History: Sir John Soane Embarks on His Grand Tour On this day in 1778, Sir John Soane set off on his Grand Tour of Europe, a journey that would shape his architectural legacy. With Rome as his ultimate destination, he travelled through Paris, Versailles, Naples, and Pompeii, sketching ancient ruins, studying classical architecture, and meeting influential patrons along the way. 🏛️✈️ Soane’s time in Italy was more than just sightseeing — it was a working tour where he produced detailed architectural drawings and even began designing a British Senate House for the Royal Academy. His experiences abroad left a lasting impact, inspiring the neoclassical elegance of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery. Come visit Pitzhanger and see how Soane’s travels shaped his iconic designs. • Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery is pleased to announce a new exhibition of sculpture by artist and designer Nicole Farhi. Farhi will display 25 hand-sculpted ceramic busts, each depicting victims of miscarriages of justice across multiple countries around the world over the past 125 years.  The exhibition takes its name from ‘J’Accuse…!’, Émile Zola’s famous open letter that exposed the wrongful conviction of Captain Alfred Dreyfus in France in 1898. Inspired by Dreyfus’s case, Farhi has spent the past two years researching and sculpting figures from around the world who have been unjustly accused, from Timothy Evans, whose wrongful execution helped abolish capital punishment in Britain, to Andrew Malkinson, who spent 17 years in prison before his conviction was overturned in 2023.  Visit this exhibition from 19 March and learn more about the powerful stories of the people behind the portraits. • This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the incredible women who have shaped Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery—past and present. ✨ While Sir John Soane is renowned for his architectural vision, one remarkable woman played a pivotal role in shaping Pitzhanger’s façade—Eleanor Coade. A pioneering entrepreneur, she developed Coade Stone, a durable artificial stone that allowed architects like Soane to bring their grand designs to life, including the striking Caryatids that still stand at Pitzhanger today. You can experience her legacy firsthand at our interactive display, where visitors can feel the difference between Coade stone and limestone using materials left over from restoration. Explore the Coade Stones at Pitzhanger and our exhibitions, including Alison Watt: From Light, presenting 18 paintings inspired by light and space, and Language of the Physical, showcasing four decades of Katherine Gili’s expressive sculptures (closing soon on 9 March—don’t miss it!). Opening soon, J’Accuse…! by Nicole Farhi will explore resilience through 25 hand-sculpted busts of individuals who have been wrongfully convicted. Book your visit now to experience these incredible stories of women in art, design, and history. • To accompany our upcoming ‘From Light’ exhibition by Alison Watt, we are hosting a Thursday Late event, themed Slow Looking, on 6 March, an exploration of the art of learning through observation, a practice central to Watt’s inspiration. Just as Watt is inspired by spending extended periods studying historical paintings by artists such as the 18th century portrait painter Allan Ramsay, we invite you to join us on 6 March for a Thursday Late, where you too can be inspired by history within the surroundings of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery. Take part in a life drawing session with Brentford Nudes, open to all abilities, set against the backdrop of the Chinoiserie Wallpaper in the Upper Drawing Room. Or unwind with a slow looking event led by Dr. Sasha Igdalove. Explore what happens when we take the time to look a little longer through group discussions and guided viewing exercises. Unable to make it? Don’t worry, there will be another opportunity for thoughtful observation on 3 April during our Thursday Late, when our Director, Clare Gough, will be in conversation with Watt amidst her works in the gallery.
