The home of the PIP Test - quick, simple, and highly insightful mechanical testing 🔬
About us
At Plastometrex, we help companies, research and educational institutions gain an in-depth understanding of the mechanical properties of their AM and conventionally manufactured parts and materials in a fraction of the time and cost of other testing methods. The brainchild of former University of Cambridge scientists, we combine deep materials science expertise, advanced numerical modelling, optimisation methods, and machine learning tools to create materials testing solutions for next-generation innovators. Our testing solutions are based on an underlying platform technology called Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry (we like to call it "PIP"). The technique is simple, quick, and highly versatile. It enables full stress-strain curves and material strength parameters to be obtained from a single indentation test in just a few minutes.

🌡️High-temperature mechanical testing doesn't need to be 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 or 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠. It also doesn't have to be limited to precisely machined tensile coupons. What if you have a sample 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞, shouldn't you be able to get reliable high-temp mechanical properties from that too? 🤷 In our latest case study, we explore why high-temperature tensile testing, with its lengthy heating times, precise sample and material requirements, and often prohibitively expensive equipment, isn't the only way to obtain accurate stress-strain curves at elevated temperatures. For this piece of work we used PIP testing (Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry), in the form of our PLX-HotStage, to obtain reliable stress-strain curves at 700°C 6𝐱 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 (not including sample preparation) with 85% 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 than tensile testing, unlocking insights from samples too small to tensile. 💬 "For the first time, the material data sheets include results of Plastometrex’s proprietary PIP (Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry) testing. Renishaw claims that by facilitating rapid, direct testing on different sections of AM parts, this method provides a more precise and efficient evaluation of a part’s mechanical properties" - Ian Wright, Engineering .com Watch below as Renishaw Additive Manufacturing's Ben Haigh provides an overview of this new addition to their data sheets. 🖥️ Click here to 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 the full video to learn more about some of the ways Renishaw are using PIP testing: https://hubs.la/Q02VZf4t0 #AdditiveManufacturing #3DPrinting #Renishaw #MechanicalTesting

🔬 ICAM attendees - what is the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and Renishaw's take on relying solely on witness coupons to certify your AM builds? Find out as Dr Tony Fry, principal scientist at NPL, and Plastometrex Applications Engineering Manager, Dr. Henry Begg, present work conducted alongside Renishaw on how the geometry of AM witness coupons can influence their mechanical properties. Expect insights into how inhomogeneity and anisotropy in these parts can impact your results — and how PIP testing can help reveal details that might otherwise go undetected by conventional techniques. 💬 Variable Mechanical Properties in Additively Manufactured Components using Profilometry-based Indentation Plastometry (PIP) 📅 October 30th, 1:30 PM 📍 Room 210-211 (Level 2), ICAM 2024 If you're focused on ensuring build consistency and part performance, mark your calendar for this session! #AdditiveManufacturing #Mapping #QualityAssurance #ICAM2024 #MechanicalTesting

A huge thanks to everyone who came out to the PRCI TDC Open House in Houston a few weeks ago. 🎉 It was great to chat with attendees about our PLX-Portable system, which has been independently proven to deliver the most accurate non-destructive testing results in the pipeline industry. James Dean and I loved showing everyone the simple operation of the PLX-Portable, and how it quickly and reliably determines the yield and tensile strength of pipes. This year’s event was especially exciting as we welcomed attendees to our new US base at the TDC. From this location, we are actively connecting with, training, and supporting our growing community of US users. Looking forward to more events like this! If you missed us and want to know more about the PLX-Portable, feel free to reach out. 💬 #oilgas #technology #pipelineintegrity #Plastometrex #pipelineverification
