We just won Femtech Product of The Year at the MedTech World awards in Malta for BLOOM⁴³!!! 🏆 🥇 I am so proud that our #phenomenalCPO Thibault de Becdelievre was there to pick up the award. He has led the patient-centric design of BLOOM⁴³. I also want to give a huge shout out to Macdara O'Shea Matt Watts Danny Wikman! And a special shout out to Carly Moosah and the many other patients whose feedback on our designs helped us create a product that meets their needs. And a special mention to everyone who voted! #blokeinfemtech here live from the Mayo Clinic! We were invited to present BLOOM⁴³ at the Beahrs Surgical Innovation Summit at the Mayo Clinic. There’s a very real and palpable culture of fostering innovation here - it’s quite something. The last time I was here was with 11 Health just before the pandemic in 2020. It’s great to reflect back on how much time has passed but how far we have come! And bizarrely, the sun is shining here after a foggy start and 8ᴼC. Heading to Texas tomorrow where it’s hot so this trip has been impossible to pack for - much like taking any normal trip on the Tube in London in winter. #blokeinfemtech here - feet finally back on the ground after a fabulous week in Torrrrrono (spelt Toronto - apparently I’ve been saying it wrong all my life 🍁). It was the Advamed Medtech Conference last week and the finals of the MedTech Innovator programme. I can’t believe it is all over. The programme has been transformative for us as a company and I have made so many new contacts and most importantly friends. We were in the Best Video Competition and we missed out to the fabulous Ozlo Sleep. But just to be included in this competion and to be part of the overall cohort of wonderful companies is a big enough prize. There are hundreds of people to thank for the last few months of mentorship, discussion, advice and also - most importantly - challenging us to think around our strategy to make sure we have a good one! I will list as many people as possible in the mentions at the end and I apologise if I forget anyone. #blokeinfemtech here. Delightfully melting in the London heat. Last year, we were accepted onto the Accelerating Femtech Program run by Innovate UK and Health Innovation Network South London. It was a great program culminating in an award and Biomedical Catalyst Grant from IUK. One of the questions I always get asked by patients before their breast surgery is “what can I do to prepare”. We want to answer that question once and for all. We are using the grant to build an app to help all women prepare for their breast surgery. And we need your help. #blokeinfemtech at JFK about to fly back to London. It’s been an exciting week with Innovate UK and the GBIP team. It’s not everyday you get to pitch to one of the largest US hospital systems but I was given that chance yesterday. We all pitched to Northwell Health for 3 mins with no slides. Great experience! Icing on the cake for me was I met a breast surgeon from Northwell at the welcome dinner the night before. I told him what I do and he said that he had read my papers and thought preconditioning is a good idea. I almost fell off my chair. Almost. Just over a week ago we were selected as 1 of 5 companies to present our technology at International Women’s Day at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG. I was slightly nervous about how Bloom43 would be received since breast surgery remains under the Royal College of Surgeons and is not a core subspecialy of the RCOG. Plus I was the only #blokeinfemtech presenting alongside some amazing female led companies. But, I am happy to report that our story was well received and we had some lovely comments afterwards. I had a blast at the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme Big Pitch event last night. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do a (slightly nerve racking) 60s pitch! It was so encouraging to hear the other pitches and stories from the CEP’s. There is so much good work going on in the UK at the moment in innovation in healthcare. We dusted off the conference boards and we’re at Women’s Health Professional Care at Kensington Olympia. The is the first face-2-face conference and we’ve had loads of interest. We’re right next to one of the lecture theatres so when people are queuing up to enter it has provided a captive and trapped audience to tell them about Bloom⁴³! 😁
