It’s no secret that the textile industry is a major source of environmental damage 🤫 Approximately 90% of the 33 million uniforms handed out to couriers in the UK end up in landfills. Angus Clifford's critical design project, ReUSed, rescues leftover courier jackets from landfill and transforms them into practical and aesthetic accessories. He has collaborated with fellow Plus X Innovation and University of Brighton alum gomi to create a limited run of pouches designed to hold gomi's power banks. Using circular design practices, the only element added to the materials is the thread from the sewing machines; every other element comes from the jackets. His personal history as a courier has informed the broader social and cultural issues that the project tackles, including the treatment and exploitation of workers. “I want to use the project to raise awareness of the harsh conditions that the people who feed the takeaway habit of the country have to face.” “Next time you order takeaway, think about the face and the waste behind your delivery.” 🥡 To find out more about Angus and ReUSed, check out our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/eckpqj7K

Absolutely thrilled to see the hard work behind the Plus X Innovation Slough building being recognised for our state-of-the-art manufacturing and production facilities in the The Business Magazine - South East awards. With Oktra's support, this commercial development reused 62% of existing furniture, significantly reducing embodied carbon and saving £170k (!) from the budget.
