Quote from Cosmopolitan: If you had an older sister we can guarantee that she wore a pair of POD, while you were left feeling slightly inferior in your Kickers. Did you have a pair of PODs at school? #pod #schoolshoes #nostaglia

We spent months developing these shoes so that we could receive the highest praise: "These shoes are light as air" They not only look amazing, but feel it too & we love seeing how you style them. Which colour are you picking, pink or black? #POD #styledbyyou #newarrivals

Last month the POD team had the privilege of attending the British Footwear Association Sustainability Summit 2024. The summit served as a reminder of the critical role sustainability plays in shaping the future of footwear. The day included presentations and discussions on topics such as sustainable design and material selection, assessing environmental impacts, as well as life cycle analysis and leather considerations. We got to hear from brands like Vivobarefoot, River Island, FAIRFAX & FAVOR, Dr. Martens plc, and Nike, who’s speakers shared their insights and innovative approaches to sustainability. Below are our key takeaways: 1. Traceability – It is now more important than ever to investigate our supply chain, from raw material through to end product and consumer, to ensure true ethical and sustainable practices. Vivobarefoot shared, that "Sustainable design is more than just the materials you choose. To ensure you're improving towards truly sustainable products, it’s helpful to align with an approach like Vmatrix to make sure you're covering the most important areas." 2. Partnership – Collaboration is key to driving meaningful change. By working with our value chain partners we can address challenges together to forge strong relationships, creating a valuable chain. Recomme, a circularity platform for brands and retailers, stressed the importance of collaboration in a fast-paced market: "Collaboration is fundamental in a market moving at pace. Make sure you have partners that are one step ahead." Their discussion with the recycling and processing company ReCircled highlighted the crucial role of strategic partnerships. 3. Culture – Sharing product stories is a powerful way to engage customers and inspire positive change to foster a conscious consumer culture. Hearing insights into product and company strategies reassured us that moving towards sustainable practices is a fulfilling journey despite it being complex at times. 4. Hope – Despite daunting challenges, advancements in areas such as regenerative materials and circular solutions are a cause for optimism. Covation Bio PDO tackled the shift from petroleum to plant-based technology, emphasising the potential of regenerative farming: "Regenerative farmed plant-based materials can accelerate the adoption of renewables in the footwear industry." We already can't wait for next year and are putting some of our learnings into practise in the meantime. #sustainability #footwear #fashion #retail

We couldn't have said it better ourselves 🙌
You rarely get the opportunity to work on a true heritage brand like POD. Many of you may remember proudly donning a pair of these, with their famous ‘ambigram’ logo, before heading off to school. The brand was a true icon then, with its high-quality materials and simple, timeless, versatile styles and today’s POD team is determined for the brand to achieve the same level of success now. The shoe market, however, is highly competitive, with stalwarts like Clarks and Kickers, so the POD team needed a truly original idea that would position POD uniquely and confidently, as well as communicating its heritage. Marketing Manager Katie Malley is THE expert on the brand and understands its value, the insight she provided from her relationships with customers and her trade trips to New York and Paris along with input from Sales Manager William Smyth and Technician and Designer Finn Taberer proved pivotal. During research, it became apparent that customers saw the year POD launched in 1976 as an iconic moment which they looked back upon with great nostalgia. The mid-1970s was seen as a free-spirited era of fun in the sun when chopper bikes, hopscotch and jumpers for goalposts reigned over iPhones, Xboxes and TikTok. 1976 is still credited with being the longest summer on record in the UK. This insight helped Mighty Atoms with the support of Katie, CEO Jane Wilson POD Brand Director Sheldon Smith and Account Manager Sarita Ockwell William to develop “Soul of ‘76” for the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter 2024 campaigns. The shoot with Dave Lambert and Paul Moffat on an unusually sunny day around Stanley Marina in West Yorkshire had a seventies vibe as the models were posing in an original 1970s Triumph Herald. Katie provided excellent direction and managed to capture the feel of a balmy seventies scene. The team at POD should be applauded for supporting the development of an idea that was truly unique and it really would not have been as successful (or fun) without this level of collaboration. “Mighty Atoms immersed themselves into the market, our customers, our competitors, and our business and developed a great creative platform that is not only fresh, bold, and new, but supports the values of what is a truly unique brand. Execution was swift, effective, and outstanding value for money.” Jane Wilson. Go on pop on a pair of PODs #sme #growth #fractionalCMO #branddevelopment
