We were delighted to welcome a group of Sea Cadets to our ship the European Causeway in #Larne, last week. The Sea #Cadets is a maritime youth charity that helps young people aged 10-18 to develop confidence, leadership, motivation and skills through nautical activities. The charity with 14,000 cadets all over the UK. Thanks to all our colleagues aboard European Causeway and in Larne. The feedback from the sea cadets and their parents included: “…this was an amazing opportunity for all concerned. Our cadets were shown the multiple roles that come together to ensure the safe operation of this vessel every day. Highlights include a demo of equipment to extinguish an EV fire on the vehicle deck, a tour of the engine room and bridge and a demo of the lifeboat. (There was also lots of hot chocolate). Thank you to Paul, P&O and the CFAVs who made this possible. “Rosie had a fantastic day and was all chat when she came back (it takes a lot to get these teens chatting!!). Thanks so much for the experience.” “Great day and experience was had by all. Well done everyone involved in making this happen.” “What a great experience and opportunity for everyone. Another fantastic example of how Northern Ireland Sea Cadets can learn for their futures and options that they have. Well done all involved in organising and P&O for the opportunity.” MSSC (Marine Society & Sea Cadets)

New Intermodal Rail Freight Service: A Prime Example of Collaborative Efforts to Reduce Supply Chain Carbon Footprint! Freightliner Group Ltd, in collaboration with P&O Ferrymasters and other industry partners, has launched a new intermodal rail freight service from Tilbury to Manchester Trafford Park. This service, which began on September 30, 2024, is the first to utilize Network Rail’s new Access Charge Discount scheme. This initiative aims to encourage a shift from road to rail transport by offering six months of free track access charges for new services. Tim Shoveller, CEO of Freightliner Group, highlighted the importance of this scheme in achieving industry growth and sustainability goals. The new service is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions and remove around 10,000 trucks from UK roads annually. John Freyne, Director Intermodal at P&O Ferrymasters, emphasized the collaborative effort in making this service a reality and its impact on reducing the carbon footprint of supply chains. The service will run five days a week, transporting containers coming from Zeebrugge or Europoort onboard a ferry from P&O Ferries, and contributing to a greener economy by cutting carbon emissions by 76% compared to road transport. Today marks the 30th year of the Magical Taxi Tour, the annual charity event that gives sick children a break from therapy and treatment, giving them a three day trip to Disneyland, Paris. A convoy of licensed London taxis took children suffering from a range of chronic debilitating illnesses and life-limiting conditions on a three-day trip to Disneyland, Paris. This year's convoy consisted of 90 iconic London taxis, 21 support vehicles, 14 motorcycles, and 401 passengers, including 145 children. P&O Ferries has today proudly continued its 28-year partnership supporting this remarkable event. Our port teams on either side of the English Channel eagerly anticipate the Magical Taxi Tour every year. The success of this year’s tour once again highlights the incredible effort and teamwork behind the scenes, ensuring that each child enjoyed a magical and unforgettable journey, and we are proud to be part of that. Special thanks to all colleagues who worked tirelessly to give our VIP passengers a journey to remember and we wish everyone on the trip an entirely magical weekend in Disneyland. https://lnkd.in/eQ4pgaph

Last week at #Larne Harbour, we welcomed Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Minister, Andrew Muir MLA, as he visited the multi-agency enforcement Paws for Thought Group to hear first-hand about the ongoing work to tackle #puppy #smuggling, illegal breeding and trafficking of pups between Northern Ireland and Great Britain. This is undertaken with a coordinated approach through routine and targeted checks at #ferry terminals, as well as follow-up activity to identify potential illegal breeding sites. The Paws for Thought multi-agency group, which P&O Ferries is part of, was formed by DAERA (the Department of Agriculture and Rural development, Northern Ireland Government) in 2020 to deter and disrupt rogue breeders and puppy traffickers. The group uses a coordinated approach through routine and targeted checks at ferry terminals, as well as follow-up activity to identify potential illegal breeding sites. The Paws for Thought multi-agency group said: “Illegal dog breeding and smuggling of pups is frequently operated by organised crime gangs only interested in making huge profits selling ‘designer’ pups in GB. They have no regard for the welfare of the dogs and many of the pups that are detected and rescued during operations are suffering from extremely painful health conditions… “We would urge anyone who witnesses or hears anything suspicious when travelling through the ports, or…locally, that indicates illegal dog breeding or movement of illegally bred dogs…to please report this to the relevant authority.”
