How do you manage importing large-scale meshes into Autodesk Revit? This week we show you how you can use the out-of-the-box collaboration tools in Revit to help manage large-scale mesh projects. Using worksets can keep the Revit file running smoothly, and prevent you from getting bogged down in too much data. Pro tip: When opening your Revit project, make sure you switch any worksets containing mesh to "Unloaded". This will ensure the Revit project opens quickly for all users. You can then switch on your mesh as and when you need it. For the full tutorial, please visit our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/eHHFMSCm

An integral part of reality capture workflows, converting any point cloud into intelligent 3D models.
About us
PointFuse software enables you to create intelligent mesh models from any source of point cloud data that can be incorporated into Digital Construction workflows, support the creation and maintenance of Digital Twins, or be used to create LOD200 BIM models for space and facilities management users. PointFuse has been designed with a focus on ease of use, resulting in a deskilling and streamlining of workflows, which also contributes to a reduction in project overheads. Whether producing visualizations for stake holder engagement, running coordination against as-built conditions or producing LOD200 BIM for space and facility management, PointFuse flexible toolset reduces time to delivery by around 70% compared to existing workflows.

As the construction industry continues to embrace digital transformation, one of the biggest challenges it faces is finding and upskilling workers with expertise in these emerging technologies. This article is a healthy reminder of why construction firms must invest in training programmes to equip their workforce with digital literacy and technical skills - and the key areas to focus on. https://lnkd.in/ejeVM4Bj

Find out why PointFuse was so integral to Fund Groep B.V. https://lnkd.in/eSEu4hKt "Without PointFuse none of this would be possible. By converting the point cloud into a manageable mesh model, we are now able to create an IFC file, which in turn means the client can run clash detection in Solibri – a vital stage in the design and build process." This was such a great success story to work on. Thank you to Bas Haselhorst, Managing Director, Fund 3D Scanning and Modelling, for sharing this with us.

Do you find that your point clouds are too large and cumbersome for inputting into onward workflows? This is a common problem, and certainly something that Fund Groep B.V. struggled with. After discovering PointFuse they were able to reduce their file size by a whopping 98%, meaning that they were now able to share their 3D images with clients quickly and easily. Thank you to Bas Haselhorst for sharing their story with us. You can find out more in this fascinating case study: https://lnkd.in/eSEu4hKt #realitycapture #pointcloud #BIM #3Dscanning

The evolution from CAD to BIM signifies a transformative period in construction technology. We enjoyed reading this article in Construction Dive which gives a really nice overview of the journey we've taken from those early days of CAD to the latest technolgies. Whilst the construction industry is often said to be lagging behind in its digital transformation, it's nice to be reminded how far we've come. https://lnkd.in/eVbzGjz9

Adding meshes into NavisWorks has huge benefits, from creating small files that can easily be shared with entire project teams and uploaded and viewed on Autodesk Construction Cloud, to running automated clash detection routines. This video clip (link to full tutorial can be found in the text below) shows you how you can ensure that your mesh model looks exactly like reality, making it a powerful tool for sharing existing conditions with other project stakeholders that may ordinarily struggle to engage with a point cloud. Top tip: If sharing, make sure to "Publish" your NWD with textures embedded, to create a photorealistic output. Simply using the "Save As" function will export the model as a grey mesh. We’ve all heard the shocking fact that the construction industry accounts for 37% of energy-related CO2 emissions and, to make the matter worse, 50% of existing building stock will still be in use in 2050. Clearly action needs to be done, and fast, but how? The answer, as most now recognize, lies in a digital-first strategy but in an industry that has been notoriously slow to embrace digital transformation, it never harms to be reminded. This article by World Economic Forum is a great short read on this important topic. https://lnkd.in/gci-EiXY

This week's #ThrowbackThursday takes us back to our most popular post of 2023, the first of our 'Why Classify?' mini-series which we launched in October.. One question we regularly get asked is around the PointFuse classification tool and the benefits this brings. A very good question, and so we thought we'd bring you a new #TopTipTuesday with our new Why Classify series. This first one is regarding the clean-up of noise which is much easier to do within a PointFuse mesh model, than it is within a point cloud. Items such as people, vehicles and construction debris can be quickly and easily selected and removed, creating clean environments for data visualizations and flythroughs. The workflow here shows people and debris being removed from some NavVis VLX 3 scan data, which was then exported via the GLTF format into Twinmotion to process a stunning flythrough of the processing plant. #classification #meshmodel #pointcloud #visualizations
