Merkinch Primary School has received a donation from the Port of Inverness community fund towards their Primary 7 outdoor adventure trip in 2026. The school received £3,000 from the fund which was set up last year to contribute towards small community youth projects that improve the health and wellbeing of young people living in the local area. Sinclair Browne, chief executive of Port of Inverness, said: “One of our main objectives as a Trust Port is to be good neighbours and supportive members of our local community. We’re delighted to be able to help Merkinch Primary School fund next year’s trip and allow as many young people as possible to attend.” Jillian Kean, headteacher of Merkinch Primary School, said: “Each year we work hard to remove as many barriers as possible to allow our P7 children to attend a residential experience with The Outward Bound trust. This builds our children’s resilience and widens their life experiences. Children and families talk about the benefits for many years after the trip and we really appreciate the support from Port of Inverness.”

The #PortofInverness is excited to have taken delivery of its first batch of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to use as a replacement for marine gas oil to fuel the Port’s pilot boats. Delivery came from local supplier, #HighlandFuels, who were founded in Inverness in 1957. HVO is 100% sustainably sourced from waste fats and vegetable oils. Commenting Port CEO #SinclairBrowne said, “We currently run two pilot boats and this will significantly reduce their CO2 emissions whilst improving the area’s air quality. Two years ago, we announced our ambition to become a net zero business by 2038 and this change will put us well on the way to achieving this goal.” #DanMcDermott, Sales Manager at Highland Fuels added, “We're dedicated to helping our customers transition to a more sustainable future. The introduction of HVO at the Port of Inverness is a key step in our mission to provide low-carbon liquid fuels offering up to a 90% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to standard marine gasoil and road diesel. We’re proud to support the Port of Inverness in achieving its net zero goals”

Our Chief Executive, Sinclair Browne, in his role as Chair of the Scottish Ports Group of the British Ports Association addressed the Annual Parliamentary Maritime Reception at Holyrood last night. There was a great turnout at what is always a popular event. It was also good to hear the address from The Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop, underlying her support for the ports industry in Scotland. #Ports #BritishPortsAssociation #TransportScotland #Inverness

Port CEO, Sinclair Browne is just back from a 2-day trip to London for a series of meetings. First up was the British Ports Association Council meeting in the BPA's London HQ. The BPA do a great job in ensuring that Ports' Policy and Agenda is at the forefront of Government awareness. It is always good to catch up with the BPA leadership group. Next it was off to a presentation and discussion session between a wide ranging group of ports and the DNOs to better understand shared challenges for better energy planning going forward for ports. Then he went to Dover House in Whitehall for a Parliamentary Reception for both Scottish Green Freeports. The Port of Inverness is at the heart of the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport and it was great to see so many stakeholders in attendance. There was a really positive feeling among the attendees and it was great to hear the widespread support for these opportunities. He then flew back to Inverness later this afternoon to attend a family screening hosted by Thorntons of Home Alone at Eden Court. A great way to finish off a busy couple of days. Thanks very much to Paul Adam at Thorntons and his colleagues for being great hosts. #portofinverness#bristishportsassociation#thorntons
