The first turbines at the North Kyle Wind Farm, near New Cumnock, East Ayrshire, have been successfully installed, marking a significant milestone in the project. Once fully operational, the 49 turbines will generate enough electricity to power nearly 170,000 homes across southern Scotland. Developed by Brockwell Energy Limited Energy, the North Kyle Wind Farm is part of a larger effort to regenerate one of Scotland’s former surface coal mining sites. The project is expected to deliver £65 million in Community Benefit funds over its lifetime, supporting local development and regeneration. Powersystems, were awarded the electrical balance of plant works contract, which included the design and installation of the electrical infrastructure, and commissioning the 33 kV substation and connection cables, ensuring the turbines are seamlessly integrated into the National Grid. Construction activities, led by civil engineers Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK, commenced in June 2023 and are expected to continue for two years. Well done to all of the teams and partners involved in the project. Driving Scotland's Green Future -The Limekiln Wind Farm is more than just a project—it's a step towards a sustainable future! With 24 turbines generating a total of 108 MW, we're proud to support Scotland's journey to net-zero carbon emissions by 2045. In collaboration with RJ McLeod (Contractors) Limited and Boralex Inc., this development is a crucial addition to Scotland's renewable energy landscape. Currently, Powersystems engineering team is preparing the site for final interface testing with SSEN and energisation of the 132 kV substation. Check out the 132/33 kV GT1 transformer protection panel, designed and built in-house by Tim Rendall, featuring a Point on Wave facility. This technology reduces transformer inrush current by closing the circuit breaker phases individually at the optimal moment. 🌿 Let's keep moving towards a greener tomorrow! #climateaction #windenergy #sustainability #renewables #scotland2024 #protectionpanels #electricalengineering
